^^^before i did that i should find the highest mileage greaser 305 from an 80s Monte carlo ss. Put a comp 268 cam in and some mid range roller rockers for piece of mind and new double roller timing chain. Spend all your money on a jet 2brl carb and the best distributor and moroso super 40 wires with the heat coating on them. Brand new engines that arent built for derby are way to tight. Purpous built engines are built to resemble wore out sloppy ones with a few additional things. Old wore out oil burner with some new love in the right places will always run. Take the heads off and port them your self and get them cleaned up.and for under $1000 i promise you if you can tune an engine that well. This set up will run with the best of them for quite a while

^^^ Basically exactly what I did to the 1st derby motor I ever ran. Only difference was it was a 350 out of a 78 K20. Made sure the heads were decent, new distributor, wires, intake and a 2 barrel Holley. Ran that thing for years. I don't think I ever got it to shut down, in the top 5 most of the time.
Of course that was 15 years ago too.

Of course that was 15 years ago too. That 305 is explained is the exact build ive ran for the past 10 years. Only time it wasn't in top 3 or 1st was one broken driveshaft when had to run stock shafts and other i got hung on the wall. Other than that i have a wall of trophies from that engine granted they werent mayhem or blizzard bash shows but it ran against guys that tun them shows and still competed plenty fine. Its tried and true and of it aint broke dont fix it. I run 20-50 oil changed eveey other run k&n filters and change my plugs every other run. No need to just a habbit i have always done. Sounds good runa great and have had it so hot my headers were glowing from flange to collector and blowing white smoke and pinging and whistling and still ran. Shut it down and started back up.to drive on trailer and never hurt a thing. It may not be a brute power house but with 4.56 gears it will push who ever i need to out the way. I live by the same build in my 318 mopars and i promise that is no slouch. 340 heads. Cam and loose as paris hilton and it runs and runs hard. I build them myself and cheap and ive yet to be disappointed. If i was rich and didnt care about winning. Id buy baldwin just to make noise and ruin peoples days. If i ran big money shows all the time. Id have gropp under the hood. But for me my engines win and prove themselves just fine. If you arent confident in your engine and drivetrain. You lost before you even ran. I hit the wires and forget it. I never once worry about my junk not.running.or moving

Anyone have any feedback on bdr engines? I've not met anyone running his yet. Ive talked too a few guys, some have had great success while others would never touch another of his engines again. In my opinion, its alot of money sitting there and the numbers dont seem too add up to me, but that is in the eye of the beholder. Not saying anything bad about the guy, as I dont know him, but there are certainly other engine builders with a higher percentage of great success. Coyler seems to be the hot ticket right now. Gards always seem to do pretty well, some people like Gropp or Baldwin. My advice is always talk to people. Learn the track record and make sure you can have a good working relationship with your engine builder.

My main engine I run is a 86 Chrysler 318. Literally not much is done to it to my knowledge other than has 360 heads and intake with a holly 2brl on it. Its never let me down and has ran against guys who have built motors and outlasted them even before I got the motor..like stated in a few post just due routine simple maintenance and get it tuned right and a nice old motor runs and sounds just as good as those few thousand dollar motors..I cant justify buying one unless I was to go into running nothing but big shows every year but I dont see that happening unless I somehow get lucky and win the lottery lol

Is there another builder out there that does mopars having issues with one now and my motor has been out there for a year and every week it’s another excuse and every week it’s going to be another week seems like since it’s a derby motor it’s on the back burner since it’s not a flat track car
