The gaston lions club is considering having two derby nights during the fair. We would like to get some input on witch filler classes to have and if people would be interested in running both nights. As of now we plan on having a heavy mod class and some kind of fwd class.
Thanks

Yep FWD gut-n-go for sure. Easy way to get more enteries. Cars for that class are easy to find everywhere, so more people have a chance to bring a car.
I suggest looking at JR Rouse's rules for FWD Gut-N-Go. The FWD derby held at gaston in 2014 was seriously flawed due to not being allowed to swap bumpers. Half the cars were stuck with plastic bumpers and it makes certain cars have a huge advantage in such a stock build class.

Guess you should pick the right car... so if I choose to run a full size chain and bang with a 72 Y frame mopar but the other guy chooses a 75 caprice wagon my mopar should get to do a bumper swap because of the disadvantages of the skin vs shock bumper? ? MAKE ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE! You want to swap bumpers then run a fwd mild build mini class..........

I'm just looking at the statistics of the target audience of select cars to choose from for that class. Most fullsize cars do indeed come with some form of steel bumpers already from factory. Possibly over 90% of them have steel bumpers. Yes true the pre 72' cars do only have the bumper skins, which would fall into the 10% category of cars used in a fullsize stock class. So therefore if you require all bumpers to remain factory in a fullsize derby...most of your entries would have a fair chance with only a few having the disadvantage. But by applying that rule to modern cars in a FWD derby, then the statistics are greatly reversed. Possibly only 50% or less of modern FWD cars have factory steel bumpers on them. So if all entries are required factory bumpers then half of the playing field would be at a disadvantage...compared to the much smaller fairness difference in a fullsize derby. Every derby driver wants the "best" car for the rules and if that's the case, then the competition is going to be dominated by a select group of cars that everyone would want to bring. Much like we see fords dominate anything 80's and newer. But the purpose of my first post was not to embark a rage or yelling or caps lock. It was to simply say hey, if you want to have a cheap easy class then make it a class that allows as many cars as possible to fit with the rules and all still have a fair advantage in the arena.
