I was just under my '02 driver today. Take a good look at the frame rails right by the engine pulleys. Very narrow right there on both sides. Looks like when ours becomes a derby car, I will count on it being dead in one run. the frame rails look like they will come into the motor but they will not the bend the frame has steel plates inside of it they help it stay in place, they will be in frint of the motor and go down. when yo remove stock steel bumper look dow frame rails some plate on the out side of the frame will fix that Since then, We've run a 92 MX-6. The front looked structurally identical to our 02 Protege. It was junk in under 3 minutes. Both sides looked like cooked spaghetti from the bumper to the firewall. Granted, he (my boy) managed to score the mad dog in those 3 minutes. Also, it was a 5 speed. Had to hold it in reverse before it hit the track. After the first hit, he couldn't hold it in any more, so he never got to use the ass end. It was a rodeo start, so the first hit was with the nose.

i had fun running the mazda i found the front once you fix the bumper shocks they hold up good back end was good it took some good shots for sure. i got a wagon i am not going to notch it see hoe it holds up. but over all i was happy how this car felt in the ring. i need to do some thing with the water temp sensor it started knocking as soon as it ran out of water bad oil in the motor is 5-20 i think if i step it up to 10-30 it might help out i have some photo of the after math but i have the full video on YouTube i will put up the link www.youtube.com/watch?v=CO3roJvr__E

You are the original poster. Since it kind of took off, you good with this becoming a permanent fwd Mazda thread? If so, I will change the title, and stick it to the locator. YES!!! please do so! that would make my day. these cars seem to do great and I think they need to become more well known
