Great motors as long as you keep it cool and eliminate all unnecessary wireing

I ran one fuel injected in my first car. Ran with no water in for quite a while. Plan on tearing it apart this winter getting the head shaved, putting a cam in it and maybe some pistons if I can find some. Then putting a 1 barrel on it should be a pretty good motor then.

You can make them a stroker motor and it isn't that hard.

this is 2.5 in 89 celebrity not sure it's actually an iron duke but it held up great running for at least 10 minutes with no water and still drove on trailer. the one barrel is a motorcraft and the adapter is made out of 3/8 aluminum and a small piece of aluminum tubing. used a Holley red pump and factory throttle cable with a little re-routing. also learned that a Carb intake from a rear wheel drive motor won't bolt up to a front wheel drive motor

Do the 2.5's have limp mode like the 3.1 motors do if left stock?

Here's how to make these suckers a stroker motor. Pontiac makes the 2.5 block. Now they also make other versions for forklifts and boats. The boat version is called a mercruiser and it would be a 3.0. From the 3.0 you need the following parts to put inside the 2.5. The crankshaft, rods, harmonic balancer, timing chain cover. Get yourself a HEI distributor from advanced or summit. Chevy citations came with the HEI dist. Pistons you can go with the stock 2.5 ones or upgrade to some 350 ones cause they're the same size. You can also upgrade the cam shaft. I had a list but can't find it. Get yourself a Chevy 350/400 turbo trans with a 8" stall and you're good to go. I can get all them 3.0 parts for about $200

You'll need the alternator bracket off an AMC as well. S10 one won't work

Ran one out of a 79 Monza in a Thunderbird. Never really had a lot of power, figured it had something to do with the gearing since the thunderbird was a v8 car. I got another 79 Monza and decided to put it in there because I knew it would bolt right in. Still didn't have a lot of power. Took it apart because I want more power in my RX7 than my chevette motor can offer and found a stuck valve and a push rod that looked like a question mark! Ordered all new rods, valves, lifters, and gaskets for an astonishing 87 bucks. Hopefully this sucker has some power when I'm done with it! I love iron duke motors. However, mine has the intake and exhaust on the same side so I can't put a header on it unfortunately

Anybody got pics and instructions on how to carb one of these? Was considering doing so to make things easier to swap from car to car.

There's a good pic of one in either the W body thread or the 3100 thread. Pretty much use one of the existing holes that mount the throttle body and then drill and tap another hole and mount you a good Rochester Monojet on there
