yup, I have a couple 400's but I keep them for in a pinch, my paps been rebuilding trannys for 40+ years and swears by his 350s and they haven't let me down yet.

According to the GM Internet site: "the TH-400 takes approximately 45 HP, the TH-350 uses about 30HP"... So would a transmission which takes lower HP to turn be a better option behind a mild build engine? This opens up a huge debate with the drag racing guys on which one is better as well. I dont know anyone who can tell the difference in 15 horsepower when it comes to derbying. Drop your tire size a little or change rear end gears and you will make up for the HP loss. I would run the 400 all day long anyways.
