65 Newport before after [/quote] Hey dm440c what was done to the front of this 65 do you remember? I am building one for a wire show. I am allowed to weld a shock in the Y but only allowed to go back twelve inches. It looks like your 65 held up alright just curious what was done to it.

it was a quick build but it had shocks welded in the Y that went back to the end plate below the A arm. It was the first time I tried an Aspen rear bumper on the front of a car and also the last. Other than that it was a stock car.

Other than that it was a stock car. I am only allowed to go back twelve inches but I put the shock in the y back to the factory bolt hole behind Y opening. Bolted it through that bolt hole (I drilled through the other side to be able to put a bolt all the way through the frame) I then welded the shock to it the whole length of the shock.

It will bend wherever the shock ends, but what you have is better than stock anyhow. Try to get some square broadside hits in the first 2-3 so that it starts out in the right direction. Y frame cars bend everywhere, the frame thickness is not impressive so it is all about balancing the bend points and spreading it around. One thing to evaluate from the results after you wreck the car is whether you think the bolt is worth the effort or if weld alone will do the job. A question I would have about the way your rules are specifically worded is about the 12" rule... does it specifically say the shock cannot go past 12" or does it say you cannot weld past 12"? If it is the latter, I would stop welding at 12" but make sure the rest of the shock goes back to that plate inside.

Never ran it. Showed up and only 5 other cars. All were 03+ all together.. Been I that spot before. Wasn't gonna waist the car because of.pride. lol. Will run labor day weekend in balsam lake wi
