You can do it however you want, all I was saying is that its nice to know how engine timing works. so far the longest I had it running was 45 mins with no water pump belt or rad, it dieseled for a bit once i shut it down...hit the starter and it fired right up like nothing happened, no pumping of the carb needed. Wow where I run it only lasts 20 minutes a heat lol. What do you run your timing at?

You mean ppl actually time with a timing light??? We just do ours by ear, always treats us well.... With my stock Mopar engines, all I do is turn it till it's a nice smooth idle with no popping or missing and till I got perfect throttle response, seems to work awesome.... Is that wrong???

^^^^thats how I did it when I use to drag race. Pull over and turn it just a little then set it back when I was done.

Nope thats how I generaly set them. Then I dump all coolant and see how it starts when its good and hot... If it dont wanna turn over..well you get the idea I think ;-)

Considering the guy that posted that has 2 degrees in high performance engines, I think I would take his advice over your "just play with it" theory... That's something you are to do in the bathroom, not the garage... Wow..Excuse me for running junk. 700hp dont do you any good if the sob wont crank over and fire up when the grease on the side of the block starts to bubble and smoke....... Take that to the bank Don't knock a higher hp engine in a derby car til you've ran one.

Watched a few the other night My point was though that it dont matter how much hp you got if it wont crank over and start ;-)

I dunno All I know for sure is that when I dumped the coolant in my car... Started it and ran it till it was sizzling..it wouldent crank over well when it was turned off. I played with the timeing and it not only stated rite up ..but it was ready to rip ;-) I know I myself have evil tendencys if someone pisses me off ...if I cant hit them with the rear I will hit them with the front.... That a little tough on stuff lol Its all good though, only thing i have done to my motors to date is cam and chain..plus that 283 4v intake ;-) Will see how I feel after running this fall. These tanks are getting scarce here... Might need to switch to sunfires hahaha No point in building a dedicated v8 for that

i have always timed by ear. i like to time them just a little cold blooded it always worked great for me. get it hotter than hell shut it off and back the timing off till it starts and lock it down.
