high speed steel drill bits will work fine!! just make sure its sharp your rpm and how hard to push( if your using a handheld drill) is the most important part slower rpm is best you will burn up the drill in a heartbeat if you have high rpm its not rocket science just common sense you dont need a carbide bit

I've welded a bolt to the end of the output shaft once and a nut to another ( Some BOP 400s have a 1/2 hole in the output shaft that's 1 1/2 " deep). Works just fine.

I did this recently with a 700r4. Seemed to work ok. I probably should have used a locking nut though. When I disassembled the nut was almost off.

I drilled and tapped a 350 turbo with a 11/64th bit and 3/8 tap. Everything worked great. Now I'm goin to a Saginaw 3 speed but I can't get any bit to drill it.

Anyone ever have problems with the welded bolt approach? I've only run 2 shows since I did this. It sure was faster and easier. Super easy!!!

I have a few bolt in yoke th400s that I usually run. I did recently drill and tap a 904 Mopar. I burned up a couple bits getting through the first 1/2 inch which was obviously hardned. After I got throught that, it was a piece of cake.
