I have never done it but i'd say a plazma is not the right tool for the job. Sawzall or cutting wheel is more than enough.

What did you use to cut it and did you just cut it off flush with the pump or what?

I used a plasma cutter on mine. I went around from the inside of the bell, then just cleaned the cut edges w/ a grinder. Worked really good. But I practiced on a broken case before I started hacking on my fresh rebuilt 400.

Well I don't have the bell housing yet but I'm assuming that it needs to he takin off flush with the pump so the steel one can fit snug against the face of the pump or am I wrong

yeah and when you put it on it will leak...put some paint on the housing and bolt it up quicly to see where you need to trim....and then it will still probably leak i havent seen one that didnt drip

I have never tried it on a steel bell but Id bet windshield urethane would stop the leaks.

How are you guys doing this exactly??? Do you bolt a plate on to something inside of the transmission. I've seen pictures on here without the bracing that goes to the tail shaft.

you can see how I did the back one....the front is done the same, the bolts are just under the plate.
