Brake fluid is cheaper... It does something to the clutches and O rings. softens hardend drum seals that leak pressure causing it to slip. that's the rumor I've heard for 30 years.

Running water for brake fluid in a pinch to get back in the feature, works great, worst one ever has got to be flipping bumpers, somebody must have done it in the early 80s, and somebody saw it and copied it and then it just snowballed out of control from there, lol. running transmission fluid level low enough that it just engages into reverse and no more, works great as well, i have never lost a transmission in 22 years of derbying

Moth balls in the fuel will blow your engine if you have enough of them in it :/

I accidentally dumped a bottle of brake fluid into my C6 tranny along with the rest of the normal trans fluid. The trans never worked again.

^^^ not a myth. Fabric softner lessons the surface tension of the water. There is a highly detailed set of posts on here about it and why it works scientifically. Especially in areas with hard water.

Moth balls in the fuel will blow your engine if you have enough of them in it :/ You have to make sure you use naphthalene moth balls. All other will cause serious engine damage quickly. Doesnt take much to raise octane levels. But isn't a good fuel choice as all the other chemicals in the moth balls don't burn well. Lots of things in the paint/solvent industry can change gasoline in many ways. Some good, some very bad. Much easier and better results to run the fuel needed instead of playing a backyard chemist.
