Anyone have issues with the mini high torque starters not wanting to engage the flywheel? Im usin a 153 tooth flywheel and the correct holes on the starter. When then bendix comes out the gears wont mesh just clunks. I have shimmed it all the up to .130 and still cant get it to mesh so i took the shims back out. I have acceptable clearance between flywheel to starter gear.
Odd thing when i first installed it, it would mesh and turn the car over now all of a sudden bam dont want to.

My experience with mini starters is that they are junk. I'm sure there are guys who've had great luck with them but I screwed around with one for a few months and went back to an old fashioned SBC starter.

What brand of starter is it? Can you engage it manually with a screwdriver (no power) to check clearances?

The bendix comes out fine, its a summit brand. And ive tried using the bokts supplied with it and also the stock bolts with washers and still no luck.
