Cost too much now for sure but back in the day, we were getting them for free to cheap and in most cases driving them home. Wasn't called chain and bang, it was just what the rules permitted you to do....not much. Cut up tons of Impalas for wagon parts but why not, sedans were just junk coil spring cars......lol. Ahhhh, the good ole days before money, greed and internet ruined derbys.

These pictures bring back a lot of memories ,back when the driver won the derby. Now it seems demolition derby is just like any outher motorsport, the guy who has the most money usually wins.I like when people say what a waste to build a clean old iron car for a stock rules demolition derby.Apparently people forget that the object of a demolition derby is to destroy the car at the derby.
Then you get the people who whine about a derby who don't allow fancy protectors and have stock build rules.Well most of the time the big paying derbys that do allow all the fancy special derby parts the car is still junk at end of day. What I'd like to see is a big dollar stock type build demolition derby. If a promoter has a large guaranteed payout with stock rules people will show up guaranteed. It's nice to see some of the promoters getting back to more stock builds for the average guy to be able to compete.

That's old school.... All sports evolve, along with technology. In my mind building a car and welding shit is half of the fun. The sport would be dead if it didn't change with the times.

I do agree that all the protectors and gizmos and gadgets they allow these days is hogwash. Appeals to a smaller crowd of drivers. The ones that have more money than they know what to do with. Non weld shows appeal to the old timers, just needs to be a healthy balance in the middle....

Totally agree with the evolving thing. Things have gone too far and now you're seeing them being reeled back in a bit. Semi-stock or if you dont like that word, Mod Lite.
