Thats just extra wires to short out lol or a place to spay hot oil around... Most temp gauges have no wires and most measure water temp not oil opps yep my bad for some reason was thinking the old mechanical oil pressure.
Still extra junk

you dont use a temp gauge like a tach and stare at it. after the heats over, take a glance to figure out if you may or may not have a warped head. simple. If it moves like a tach, thats not good magic number? broken. lol

I ran a temp gague at the bash last year. It pegged at 260 then went back to zero. However it never lost a drop of water. I think the only thing that the gauge did was make me worry about burning up my high dollar motor. However, I never let off the skinny pedal. IMO Never bring anything to a derby that you are not willing to junk. JMO

I would say Ive never had a motor get hot on me as my rusty P.O.S.'s never make it that long. I can now say I officially seized up an engine that "wont get hot" 3 cyl geo. had it screaming then boom nothing. ass went to hell but I was running fine and front was straight. Thought it was my battery connection till i saw my dash light up fine. when I was getting dragged off the track i threw it in gear and the tires wouldnt even break it loose. Last thing on my mind is my engine getting hot of course I have no money in my engines so Ill just let er eat.

I can almost guarantee that every engine in any car made post 1970 has been dynoed way hotter than you will ever think about getting good it and ran alot harder then you can in any setting
