Got the goody out of this jalopy......the learning curve on the 79-81's is still steep for me. Fronts are a no brainer but the trunks are a different story. Definitely made this one too hard behind the back doors. Won the 2 man team show with my dad and won mad dog: I just ran a 79 newport and it’s starting to belly just like yours did what you think about nothching the rear to help that ass pack in quicker without so much stress on middle? I keep looking at this picture over and over again and I'm curious if that halo goes down to the front leaf perches or not. I always do that on my mopars and haven't had this happen. However I have only ran one of these 79 to 81s and it had the leaf pack ripped out from under it so what do I know. I am building another one now and keep studying these pictures.

I'm guessing I am thinking of the same hole you are that goes through the rear frame. I do this on shockers, y framers, and pinch framers. I take a 6x6 plate and blast a hole in the middle, I then run a piece of all thread through the plate then through the floor/frame with a 4x4 plate/washer on the under side. I then tighten the hell out of the all thread, and weld the plate to the floor. Then when I make my cage my roll bar/down tubes go to that plate that is welded and bolted to the floor. I do the same thing with my front two down bars to the front frame. I'm thinking that would prevent this from happening.

That is the right hole i do the same but i run my rod or 9 wire from that plate to my GTP and run my from wheel well to wheel well and pressured into package tray

I have to have a 1 inch gap.

Will a gas tank protect stop everything tho. Nope! Austin is a good driver and builder so I'm sure he tried to stop that from happening.
