try changing the cap, look at the old one for corrosion or if it looks likes you drew a line in it with a pencil. possible cam lobe wore? I will try looking at the cap. One thing i did not do was check for spark on the plug while it was out of the cylinder. That would tell me if its in the spark or something else such as a blown head gasket. As for the cam, im not thinking that could be it because it was running perfect right before i put the headers in and as soon as i started the car with the new headers on it is running like this and the two pipes do not get hot.

Also there is no milky oil on the dipstick that would point towards a blown head gasket on the inside. But i suppose it could be blown where water cant get in the oil.

The latest issue of Hot Rod Magazine (Feb 2014) has an article regarding headers and header wrap on page 138.
In a nutshell: Metallic-ceramic coatings and header wrap hold the heat inside the pipes, which supercharges the gases, improving flow. Getting them out faster lets the intake charge come in quicker, and also reduces temps in the combustion chamber.
Increasing diameter of header (primary) tubes raises the peak torque point in the engine's rpm range, sacrificing low-end torque. Tube length doesn't significantly change the peak torque but shifts the power curve on way or another. Longer tubes increase power below the peak torque point while robbing power above the peak torque point. Shorter tubes act the opposite way.
H and X-pipes increase low end torque but don't serve much of a point at high rpm's.
Make sure your headers have thick flanges. Thinner flanges will warp with heat, leak, and rob power.

Anyone run with exhaust flappers and any cons of runnin with them?
Should I spend the money on them or should I make my own?

Will SBC headers bolt up to a 4.4 liter engine its a 81 caprice wagon. That's a 267 right? Yes they are a regular SBC, just don't expect alot of power. Lol
