got a chance to check it out last night. the little button on the vent/breather was rusted frozen. took a pair of pliers, broke it free. ....issue gone.

Hooked my tranny cooler up to my 1985 Lincoln town car tonight, test drove it! Went fine got back to the shop and noticed the clamp I had on it was loose so I lost a good amount of transmission fluid let it cool down and test drove it and when you put you foot in it, it don't take off like it usally did it revs up and after a while it jumps and takes off is it just low on tranny fluid or what?

The c6 is a stronger transmission that came out in heavier cars and trucks it can handle more torque and horsepower than a aod which in a derby that's what you want. You are not looking for gas mileage and smooth shifts your looking for something that goes back and forth and is dependable. In a demo you subjecting the motor and trans to greater forces than it would ever see on the road. Now sure you can make a aod just as strong as a c6 but it takes a lot more money to get there. Oh! and if you need overdrive in a derby than the arena is to big.

Aods work just fine as long as you run a LARGE Trans cooler with ice. My last aid had 12 abusive heats on it and till the last run fluid was as red as the day I put it in. I've since started running fmx's and really fell in love with them use less power to run and handle huge amounts of abuse especially with a small stall converter in front of it. Never ran a c6 so don't know what there like

Ive run plenty of aods with varying success. If u run one wire or weld a stop to keep the tv lever 1/2-3/4 open. If given the choice take the c6 or even a c4. I've heard ok things about the fmx but don't have first hand experience. With a derby any trans will eventually die. My opinion an aod will die a little sooner then a c6. As stated a cooler will go a long way. Mine all ran at stock shows that didnt allow coolers. Still have one aod that had 6-7 runs others died in 5 min

STRONG thick bell housing and cast iorn case and THICK tail shaft. ive ran C6s with and they have really thin bell housings and i always seem to crack one every time i use one. most times by starter or where dowl pins went in. Ive put a 450hp 351W longrod infront of a stock FMX and it hasnt failed yet. very good transmission and does not rob tons of HP like a C6

We finially disagree bigbadmercury... If your having problems with the bellhousing area of tha case , that would be a first Ive seen... Usually the tailhousing area is where tha problems start with a C-6 ... as with most .. Especially in a derby application.. Ive got a couple tips to cure those problems.. Put ya trust in tha tried and true C-6 ... They were used behind factory cars with 450 HP with no problems.. Just make sure that tailhousing can float.. And use a cast iron tail housing.. I have many, many runs on tha same C-6 , and I would trust it in a daily driver.. Hands down , a C-6 is THE best automatic transmission behind a pushrod Ford engine.. And you will never notice tha little difference of HP the C-6 uses over any other trans , ESPECIALLY in a derby application.. JMO
