found out too that they are two versions of the hei dizzy for 302 one has a bronze gear for flat tappet, another has hardened steel gear make sure you get the right one for your 302, but then again you could always take the wrist pin and gear off the orginal dizzy

Where is a good place to buy a decently priced reliable inline fuel pump? Anyone have any suggestions?

Where is a good place to buy a decently priced reliable inline fuel pump? Anyone have any suggestions? Summit, jegs, speedway, ebay, day motorsports etc. I'd recommend a holley red or equivalent. I got summit racings "holley red" on sale for $65. It's an exact copy of the holley red only with a summit sticker. Quick fuel also offers their own version of the holley red. Stay away from the cheapo ebay knock off of the red tho, it will cause you nothing but problems.

Hey guys. I actually did read through this whole thread. Have a 84 crown Vic and looking to order a hei and ditch the tbi for a carb. Question is looking at distributors off speedway and the one made for roller motors with the hardened gear is a better price than the one with the bronze gear I believe. Will the hardened heat hurt anything being it's an 84 it does not have a roller engine? Also is it possible to swap gears off the distributor currently in car with gear on hei if it does make a difference. Thanks

Yes you can swap the gear with te stock one. Just knock the wrist pin out and switch gears I would use a new wrist pin to put the gear back on though.

But is switching the gear necessary? Or will the hardened gear damage the cam on the non roller engine?

Not trying to be lazy or avoid switching gears. If it needs to be done that's fine but now I'm just curious about it.

Another that I switched the gear to a bronze/brass. Iv ran both in a factory roller motor and there has not been any excessive wear on the cam or distributor gear. Now a non roller 302 there's no need to switch the distributor gear the comes on the hei.

I run a 91 roller with a steel gear and it hasn't hurt anything.

Ok guys so I am havin some trouble. I put a carb on my stock 302 on an 84 ltd wagon. I have a Holley red pump. The car will not stay running. I checked to make sure I have fuel going to the carb but it won't start without pouring gas down it's throat. And then it only runs off the gas you pour down it. I do not know what I am doing wrong. It runs very healthy until it runs out of gas.

Is there a filter on the carb itself? What carb is this?

Yeah I will have to do that. It is a motor craft. Not sure of model. Yes there is a filter going into carb and I was going to replace it today but forgot to get another when I was at part store.
