Ok everyone need help with this ASAP please. I have read this entire thread and I am at a loss, I am trying to get this car ready for a kid for his first derby and it is being a nightmare. I have a 4 barrel edelbrock on the engine now witha a HEI chevy style distributor and in line fuel pump. The car will start but revs like hell and then will die a few seconds later. I thought maybe vacuum leak but I plugged every hole on carb and the big one on intacke right behind carb. I have swapped carb 5 times and it is obviously not the issue. ANY help from any one would be very greatly appreciated. Could be multiple things. What fuel pressure is your pump putting out? Is it an adjustable pump? Should be between 5-7 psi but might need a little more. Have you went through the carb top to bottom? Are each vacuum port plugged properly? Could even be as simple as having it 180 degrees out on timing.

the pipes in back of the heads go to exhaust,,
what intake you have ?.. EGR spacer plate leaking ? block off plate leaking ?
are you using a brake booster,, / that leaking ?

It's an older style 2 barrel. It's an electric pump everything is just as it was on my last motor. The brake booster may be it but it ran fine when fuel injected?

So to convert a 91 Vic with the 5.0 EFI 302 to carb.. I'll need an intake from a 302, carb, and distributor, correct?

It's simple. Pull all that electric bullshat, throw the intake and everything on, tune, and you're set.

the ealy to mid 302's found in the ford/linc/mercs that came with tbi can be used for the carb conversion also. A holley 2 barrel or a motor craft bolts right on.

While doing some research I came across This : when running a electric fuel pump on a carb you need to have a in line fuel filter .It has a some air in it which keeps flow /pressure constant . Don't know if this is true ? anybody else hear of this?
