If it puts out more than 7psi or the pump is for fuel injected/throttle body cars then yes.

I think the pump is rated 5 to 9 psi....so regulator it is.

Not a complete question... did u put a fuel pump eccentric on the cam and plan on using manual fuel pump or electric fuel pump?

I ran into a little bit of a snag with a 1988 crown vic with the 5.0, I bought it aready (half ass) built for derby purpose but the people who built it messed up the wiring pretty bad. It doesn't crank when the battery is hooked up, but it does if I jump the posts on the solenoid. I seached around a bit but coudn't find any accurate wiring diagram. It has a 5 posts solenoid, and none of them are identified.
I will probably end up converting it to carb anyways, but I'd like to make it run as is because I have trouble sourcing parts for the conversion. If I understood the procedure well there is no need to change the front cover if I use an electric fuel pump. The second interrogation I have; I looked at several HEI distributors on eBay and none of them state if they fit in a roller engine anybody can show me one or give me a part number I can work with?

They say the cam gear is a different type of metal for roller vs hydraulic. I've never had a problem with keeping the gear that the cheap ebay ones come with. For derby use I think it doesn't matter.

I have a bronze gear on one of of my dizzys for my roller ford motors the other dizzys have the stock gear. Iv had luck with both and no noticable wear on the cam or the stock dizzy gear.

Ok everyone need help with this ASAP please. I have read this entire thread and I am at a loss, I am trying to get this car ready for a kid for his first derby and it is being a nightmare. I have a 4 barrel edelbrock on the engine now witha a HEI chevy style distributor and in line fuel pump. The car will start but revs like hell and then will die a few seconds later. I thought maybe vacuum leak but I plugged every hole on carb and the big one on intacke right behind carb. I have swapped carb 5 times and it is obviously not the issue. ANY help from any one would be very greatly appreciated.

im having the same problem right now, this is the second motor ive started with a fresh car usually my 302's already have been swapped over, what all vacuum lines ports etc need to be plugged? I have a 2 barrel motorcraft 1.21 carb and I believe all of the vacuum lines/ports on it have been plugged and I tried pinching off the 2 lines that tee off coming out of the back of the heads, are there any others? any other reason why it would be doing this? I feel like its vacuum because it wont idle either. when I had the hei 2 barrel intake and 2 barrel on my last 302 it idles fine and ran well. im confused on why im having this problem because ive built 8 plus 302's now and never came across it, maybe I don't have the lines coming out of the heads plugged well enough, ill have to see if I have a set of welded up block off plates laying around the garage if you guys think that's the problem. thankyou!
