Check the firing order on the distributor if the wires are on, 302 is 15426378 and 351W is 13726548. Counter clockwise. What I always do is just spread my thumb and middle finger apart and if I can touch the front intake bolts with both fingers it's a 302, but if I'm an inch short it's a 351W.. This could differ from hand to hand though lol

Not all 302's came stock with that firing order.... It all depends on tha cam of what firing order a sbf uses.. An early style 302 camshaft could have been installed in a 351W and now tha firing order is different or vise verse. So that method is not accurate.. The easiest way to tell tha difference externally if your not familiar with tha 2 , is to look at where tha intake meets tha block (at the distributor) ... If the intake sits flush its a 302 , if it sits about 1 inch above the distributor mounting face its a 351W.

Why would anyone want to ? They wasn't worth a sh!t on a 400 , Iam sure they wouldn't be worth a sh!t on a 351w either.

With what you will have in pistons,intake,pushrods,gaskets and other odd ball stuff you can buy a set of world heads and they outflow the cleveland heads and not have to run specialty parts. TRUST me its not worth your time doing a clevor .

Is a 302 out of a 91 vic. any good? I and running a 95 merc. and I got the engine out of a 91 that my buddy if running. Never built a ford motor, just trying to put one together for a stock show.

Is a 302 out of a 91 vic. any good? I and running a 95 merc. and I got the engine out of a 91 that my buddy if running. Never built a ford motor, just trying to put one together for a stock show. Convert to carb. 1 wire distributor. Junkyard a set of 1.73 rockers off a 351m/400. If u want put new timing chain on. Port exhaust side of heads. Youll be on way to good motor

Thank you very much big bad merc. What do the different rockers do? Just curious, ya going to get an aftermarket dist. What kind of carb. do you recommend?

4412 holley is my preference. Stock 302/351w's use a 1.6 ratio rocker and 351m/400s and 460s use a 1.73 ratio. Give your stock cam more lift.

Oh okay that makes sense. What year 351m do i need to look for. Thank you very much for your help and advice. I haven't messed with fords that much, cars or motors. I am ready looking forward to doing something different u know.
