I guess a 292 must be a pos as I've never seen one but just got a 62 galaxie that seems to run well? Little motor fits well in these tight little engine bays so I'd give it a try if it's not too bad.

From the old timers I heard alot of good stories about the 292's and 312's. A guy on the 1st wecrash had a nice painted up 292 that if I remember right he went through . I meant to keep track of it but with all of the switching I lost track . I always wanted to try one, but the availabilty of them or parts is few and far between . But if I get the opportunity I will try one.

Not a Ford guy at all but I know the 292 is a Y block, not your common Windsor block that your 289, 302 and 351 are based off of.
Ive heard good things about the Y blocks though.

What do you guys wanna know about the Y block? I know them pretty good.Usually the issue with these motors is the rear main causing a loss of oil pressure but otherwise a damn good motor.I have several of these motors.

What trannies will bolt to a y block? How well do the soft valve seats hold up on these old engines if you don't add lead to the gas?

if you run the gt40/p heads a valve spring change is a must the stock springs are trash....throw them away and get a set that work with your cam.

Y-block is a bellhousing of it's own... so you are limited for a fordomatic 3 speed or manaul. if you get the right bellhousing you can bolt a t-10 transmission to it.. The valves my father drove cars around for years with the unleaded gas in them(nearly daily).Depending on how much you run it you'll have to do a valve job.

What's better cast or aluminum intake. I know aluminum would be better for heat? Any other pros/ cons?

351 Windsor have a choice of 2 or 4 barrel. I usually run a 1405 edelbrock but have been seeing a lot of 2 barrel crabs so not sure what's up with that I'm guessing it helps with lower en torque and not hesitating when at full throttle.
