first off the magnum motors have different balance than the la engines atleast the 360 does... I'd keep the trans u got to keep things simple Just drain the fluid and change filter add a cooler etc.Just make sure you come to stop when changing gears.I broke a reverse band in my 93 truck doing that when stuck in the mud.

MAYBE I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT YOUR SAYING BY KEEPING THE TRANS WITH IT?WHY AND HOW DO YOU USE THE TRANS THAT WAS ORIGINALLY WITH THE MAGNUM BLOCK?WE'VE BOLTED SEVERAL 727's TO THE BACK WITH THE BUTTERFLY WEIGHT CONVERTOR ON MINE,BUDDY BOLTS WHATEVER 727 THAT WORKS TO HIS ALWAYS IN THE MONEY AT A COUNTY FAIR LEVEL.

Do what you want... if you want a long term reliable engine that's what I'd do... The TQ counter weight is what I understand not entirely positive myself as I'm also a ford guy. Possibly use the TQ on the 727?

THE ORIGINAL TRANS TO THESE HAVE OVERDRIVE UNITS ON THEM AND HAVE ELECTRICAL CONTROLLED VALVE BODY'S, NO WAY TO GET THEM TO WORK ON A DERBY ENGINE UNLESS YOU RUN A TPS,ECM,ELECTRONIC GOVERNOR,LOTS OF WIRING,ECT,ECT.JUST TRYING TO HELP

Hmmmm.....guess I should look into it. That was the only reason I wanted a magnum block. Hey Mopar17 did you ever end up getting a Magnum set up for you derby engine? I'm kind of interested, because its getting harder to find a decent block. I realize they are still out there, but there is a fair amount of Magnum block to go around and are pretty easily obtained. I was just curious how you made out? Thanks in advance

Really just trying to weed out all my stuff now.

Okay, thanks Mopar17. I understand where your coming from, sometimes life's priorities change. Derbying is supposed to be fun, and if your not getting the enjoyment that you once did maybe it's time to take a step back. I think no one ever really get out of derbying, I believe you just take a breather for a while. Even if a person doesn't drive anymore there is still many ways they can still be involved. Such as helping organize a derby, helping friends and family that are still involved in the sport, lending some advice to new comers or other drivers, or simply being a spectator and supporting derbies that way. But that's enough from me. lol If anyone has any information on converting a Magnum 318 or 360 to a carburetor, and running a 727 tranny on it any constructive information would be greatly appreciated. I don't currently have a Magnum to start with, I would like to know the details before I get started on the idea. Thank you in advance.

I’ve been looking for “that guy”. Trouble is I’ve got way more stuff than the common derby guy can afford to buy at one time. That’s not me bragging, that’s just me spending way too much money over the years and buying every shocker Mopar and pinch framer that was reasonably priced. I’ve got 2 built cars and one partially built, keep thinking that maybe I’ll get the itch. Only thing I’ve had the desire to do is get rid of every last nut and bolt so far.
