I'd just go with a used OEM one, and if you pay more than about $40 you are getting ripped off. I don't think I have ever burned one up, at least 50 or so derbies on them.

I used to run some Chinese brand, paid like 80 bucks for it off of eBay like 6-7 years ago. Ran it for about 3 years before I snapped the side off it off. So go for it!

I dont have access to a used one. Would a reman one from Advanced for a 90s Dakota be better than the ebay one?

You have proven you have access to the eBay, that's where I have gotten most all of mine. Anything from a V6 to 5.9 engine from the 90's will pretty much fit, Magnum stuff. There are newer ones that work as well, but they have a connector in place of the stud for the solenoid connection.

I go to pick and pull and get them for oem ones for like 30 bucks. like Mkvien said the 01 and ups have a push on spade style connector while the 94 and up have bolt on style for the solenoid. they are easiest to get off of vans and 2wd dakotas and rams.

I got the same one from DB Electronics last winter and haven't had any issues yet. In fact: as many times I started and over cranked that car during the whole HEI fiasco, I still didn't manage to ruin it. Unfortunately, the only track time on it so far was Troy...

I'm not liking the terminals on the original posted starter.Too easy to snap off. Wondering if they are just a removeable extension, like there is on the factory starters.
