^Little different application, but all I was saying, for many people, running a fair class, semi float could be a cheap alternative. I did not know they tend to break the at the clips though, thanks.

I've been useing Sterling 10.25. They have bigger axles and usually have lower gears. hope you never have to change wheel bearings in that thing! Just got done building mine, braced it all around and when we pulled it apart to check the bearing we found that it needed some new wheel bearings, cost 250! for bearings and seals, darn odd sizes.

I run a GM 14 bolt cab and chassis rearend under my Vics with stock 8-lug truck rims and have no problem with clearance. Got the axle from a local junk yard for free and a 4.56 gear from a friend for $50. The semi-floats will break fairly easily, I wouldn't recomend running one.

Better than the 7.5s I've used in the past that are 26 spline never broke an axle on one of them, but our area is starting to allow 8 lugs in and I have quite a few full floaters sitting around. I've heard of some people breaking the semi float axles in daily drivers, but never heard of full floaters ever breaking an axle anywhere.

here is a pic of one i jigged up last year. it was pretty easy and i was done in a couple hours. full floater is definatley the way to go. it was also easy to make a drive line brake for. plenty of bolts up front to build a bracket off of.

I don't know how you can get away with that when 4.56 on up require a different carrier.

For running pretty much stock sbc's what would best 4:10s or 5.38s? I'm thinking 5.38s or is there much of a difference?
