Was unable to find a thread on 3/4 ton rearends. Building a sedan for Turn Back Clock show, and was wondering what year/make truck guys are using for their 3/4 ton rears. Is everyone using 3/4 or some using 1 ton? Rearend has to be a full floater correct? Anyone have any pictures or anything to suggest/add to this thread would be appreciated.

In my "Building a Rear End" thread, some guys we're talking about running a Corporal 14 bolt out of Chevy's, and Dana 60s. I believe the Dana 60s were most popular in Dodge and Fords.

I use 1 ton cab and chassis ( camper and box trucks ) most of the time. The one I'm currently using is a dana 70b axle from a 69 dodge camper came with 4.88's ready to go, 67 inches hub to hub I believe?. You dont want a c-clip axle so yes a full floater would be the ticket. They can be shortend some if width is an issue, Depending on the axles. The dana 60 and 70 are pretty much the same rear with very minor differences. The corporate 14 is a good unit but the dana's are easier to come by. If you do use a dana get the 35 spline type as the 32 are a bit harder to find in most yards if you need to replace an axle which is rare. The open carriers on most can be welded in the housing while the 2 piece carrier will have to be taken out and apart to weld correctly. A spool is not a must with these imo as I have not seen a properly welded one break yet.

The 14 bolt has a couple versions, 9 1/2 , 10 1/2, and an 11 1/2 ring gear. the 10 1/2 ring gear is the most common and was use in 3/4 and 1 ton trucks from 73 up.

i use super duty rear axle single wheel in my derby truck, our giant u bolts fit the tubes perfect.

The 9 1/2 ring gear is the semi floater the other 2 are full floaters I dont know how to tell the others apart without taking the cover off and measuring

All of the 70s Chev pickup 14 bolts I've checked are wider than the Dodges, I think the duallly I checked was 70".

10.5 gm 14 bolt is most common and the best for derby as far as price, durability and availability. 9.5's are junk as stated above, the 11.5's are overkill imo. They are found in 2000 or 2001 and newer chevy trucks and 2003 and newer dodges. Pretty much all Of the 11.5's are disc brakes and lockers with 3:73's or 4:11 gears. But these rears are going to be alot more expensive and pointless to use imo when you could get a 10.5 for 1/4 of the price and be plenty strong.

62-63 from backing plate to backing plate sounds sounds about right to the 70 from axle flange to flange when you think of about 3 1/2" for the thickness of the backing plate, brakes and hub. I think the single wheel Chevy measured similar. The 72-93 Dodge housings I have are definitely the narrowest I've found, within a couple inches of an 80's ten bolt GM.

What is a good width for rear end in crown Vic. I got one from 65 ford 3/4 ton, 55inches from backing plate to backing plate?
