Can you place a fuel pump horizontal in a metal gas can. As long as the outlet is above the inlet. My car origional fuel pump is bigger than my metal gas can(taller). I could place it sideways right??

You've probably already figured out if you can or cant. but for what its worth I run my fuel pumps horizontal.
my question is has anyone ever built their gas tank so its floating? for example the post to post bar having the gas tank bolt to the side of the square tubing with a metal square around it (gas tank protector)

So say the rules state the cage and gtp have to remain 6-8 Off the rocker rail sheet metal I make sure my tank is on the rack with maybe an inch above the floor pan...... use your imagination on how the cross bars are configured to the gtp down that low to bolt the gas tank in. Where there a will there's a way.

Using your gas tank as a kicker...don't do it. I saw something very similar to what 99x is saying except he used the bottom edge of the gas tank as a kicker resting against the curve in floorpan...busted in the back seat.

Especially compacts. I've seen too many cars start hitting with the gas tank (luckily mine never have). Floating gas tank in every car and GTP if allowed. Safety first...

Yeah, that's was a big mistake on his part. Common sense would tell you hmmm maybe you shouldn't expose your tank especially when you know even with a tank protected on the sides the bottom is exposed. 1/2" Plate usually fixes that problem in a hurry
