THEN IM PISSED AND DISCOURAGED... save yourself the headache..JMO keep looking ;D I've been looking for a couple months now for a semi-clean 58-66 Tbird that I can build for my senior project. Can we re-mane this to 58-66 Thunderbird Tips/Tricks x2 it would kill a few threads here and there if we can get an "official" sticky.

cut the rot out of the t bird as best as you can and cut a hood or trunk lid and weld it into the trunk floor and mount the leafs directly to the frame. if you have all year in the school shop and rules that allow it you can at least buld it up enough to take a few hits in the rear and not blow up. IF the humps and the frame under the doors arent rotted

after looking at pics, it seems like the 58-60 models might be better since they dont have that shitty front suspension design and have a more traditional front subframe setup. Any input on this?

IF the humps and the frame under the doors arent rotted X2. Cousin's got a 59ish Lincoln. Front is decently clean, but the trunk floor is completely gone. Trunk pan will be replaced when we get around to running it. With a little bit of work you can do as metalman said and weld a large piece of sheet metal from a hood or trunk lid in place. We wouldn't junk a good derby car with a decent frame (small patchable holes) because of some sheet metal work that would need to be done.

ran a 66 and really liked it. fully understand the fitment issue joker has with his 5.3. i ran a 406 in mine and it was tight, can definately say every one of these cars will wreck your headers when they start to bend. just so tight... fronts are good but not quite a suicide like people say. The front suspension on the latter model wasnt much of the problem but i did a swap on mine with other parts to help it out. now the center link was definately an isuue in the steering linkage as it was a u shape after one run. Joker I still have the full front suspension from mine if you need it, its all at the house..

Are all the late 50's and the 60's T-Birds uni-body?
Thanks!

Did they ever make a four door T - bird? Cant ever remember seeing one...... Not these years. The suicide door style, and then in the 70s they did. The 70s ones are basically just LTD II's I believe.
