Pull out the pucks, mopar shocks on the side of the frames, hardnosed, metal strap from sub to fw(wheel well will hide it) paint and sand work wonders, add sub bolts(weld to top of sub/tranny x member and have your seat and battery box cover them, put motor straps off front and back of heads and down to cradle. Flat stock on the cradle, threaded rod half way down the fw and kicked to the frame and welded where the back motor tie downs are, 9 wire from dash bar to sub in side the car. That should be the front, your cage and gas tank protector should do the rest if you can keep the ass end from sky rocketing at the front shackles then you'll be golden. This is pretty standard around here.

I've inspected cars at a few shows and I look close but have always acknowledged that if a guy spends enough time on his cheat job, I won't find it in any reasonable amount of time in the inspection line. It is what it is.

The last show I went two was like this where the inspectors just gave up and started handing sticks out. These cars were going head on and just bounced after about three times and most of the crowd left they started bending. Truck heat was wild.... Full track wide open and just a hard thud and bounce off the other.

Cheat to compete, bag to brag, pin to win, all these statements I have heard more than enough in the last 4 years...

Couple big issues not completely addressed here if you want a true answer of how these cars full track most of the night and not nose to the sky after 3 of them shots. First and foremost, what bumper is being used?, and second are these full track shots frame shots or crowd-pleasing hits that tear the shoot out of sheetmetal. Strategic shots like that can get the officials to stay off your back for playing smart in features, and make a fella look like King Kong . The right equipment can change your dramatically but will have to be addressed or the outcome can be catastrophic. Had a shocker turn in on me once on the driver's side it snapped off my steering shaft at the gearbox and the frame took my mini starter clean off my engine

They're hard bumpers. think one is a 76 impala if I remember. Over the years I've seen them run pointies and flatties and 74 impalas. One went nose to the back of a 62 ford wagons rear both cars full speed and the wagon smashed bad, didn't even scratch the chrome on the shocker. Being clever and winning the money is my whole point-it's total bs to cheat a car and beat up on legal cars, I think if they're caught they owe a lot of people for thrashing their stuff and a major ass kicking.

If those are all the rules you run to then I see a whole lot of stuff they could be doing and aren't "illegal" by that rules sheet. You definitely wouldn't like one of my rides built to those rules

Is it possible for a mid weld mid 70's Newport/Yorker to do full arena shots all day and not have it nose? And go nose to tail with a 61 ford wagon with both cars at full speed? And run multiple derbies with the same cars? If so, I want to know how to do it. There's 3 cars that have bumpers hardnosed and a couple 1/8 plates to repair damage in front of the a arms that I see run and the one has a hofffmeister cradle/dp and it doesn't bend at all but the other 2 don't and they do bend slightly. The inspectors say they've checked inside the subs. I wonder if the upper fender frames can be built up enough to make a shocker this hard? Or what else? I total a shocker in one run with these rules and don't hit near as often or crazy as these cars...I actually hope there is something legal they're doing so I can do it but just don't believe it.

HEY COWDOC I JUST FOUND THIS PAGE OVER A YEAR LATER AND REALIZED YOUR TALKING ABOUT MY CAR #32. I WAS READING WHAT YOU WROTE AND LAUGHED MY ASS OFF ABOUT THE FULL TRACK SHOTS ALL NIGHT LONG AND STUFFING THE FENDERS AND SO ON. YES, THERE WAS SOME GOOD HITS AND BIG HITS BUT I THINK YOU NEED TO OPEN YOUR EYES AND YOU NEED TO RUN IN MORE THEN 2 DERBY'S A YEAR. I HAVE OFFERED YOU TO COME OUT TO THE SHOP AND LOOK AT THE CARS LIKE I TELL EVERYONE EXCEPT #11 AND HIS GROUPIES. OK HERE'S THE CAR DETAILS, THE CAR HAS RUN IN 4 DERBY'S DIDN'T PLACE VERY HIGH IN MOST OF THEM. THE CAR BENT NICE AND WAS REPAIRED CORRECTLY AFTER EACH DERBY WITH TIME TAKEN. FRAME WAS REPAIRED WITH 1/8 PLATE IN ALL THE PLACES THEY BEND. ENGINE CRADLE DID IT'S JOB AND ENGINE STAYED PUT. FROM A DISTANCE THE CAR LOOKS NOT TO BAD, UP CLOSE ITS IN BAD SHAPE AND STILL NOT SURE WHAT TO DO WITH IT A YEAR LATER. THE CARS WERE INSPECTED BEFORE THE DERBY AT MY SHOP FOR OVER 1 1/2 HOURS WITH TAPE MEASURES CHECKING THE FRAME DAMAGE AND WE DRILLED EXTRA HOLES IN THE FRAMES WHERE THEY WANTED THEM TO PROVE OUR POINT ABOUT THE CAR'S, THE CARS WERE THEN INSPECTED AGAIN AT THE DERBY BY ATLEAST 6 TO 8 PEOPLE AND DRILLED MORE HOLES AND CUT PATCHES TO EASE THE TENSION ABOUT THE CARS YOUTUBE GILLETTE WYOMING DERBY MAIN EVENT AUGUST 2012 WFO67. IT'S THE CARS 30, 31, 32. #31 NOT IN THE MAIN BROKEN STEERING BOX. I'LL TRY TO GET PICTURES OF THE CAR ON HERE IF I CAN FIGURE IN OUT. ONLY THING THAT HAS COME OF THIS IS THEY CHANGED THE RULES ONCES AGAIN TO PLEASE THE WHINERS. TYPICAL POLITICS, THE LAZY PEOPLE ARE GETTING FARTHER AHEAD THESE DAYS. THANKS COWDOC.

Congrats on the new baby. Only ran 6 derbies last year because 2 cancelled and the tranny puked on one at tech-just a slouch I guess. So I have a 74 Newport all ready to run. I tried to make it as much like yours as I can but I've never had much luck with shockers. Wanna buy it? At the time of this post I didn't know about factory plates on some subs and am sure that's huge-but that's why I posted this-to find out how it could be done legally. The 74 has these plates. I've not inspected your car so not sure what you mean by open my eyes but since there is so many wanting to inspect it I must not be alone wondering why it's so tough. Also, I was pissed as it was right after you knocked the whole side of my car off leaving my actual azz sitting in the dirt and I don't usually let that kind of thing happen. Lots more cars this year, new rules may have something to do with it. There were too many plates allowed before IMO-everywhere they bend? RC17 is a friend but I'm nobodies groupy, have nothing to do with Gerald though.
See you there?

I've heard that peening in all of the sub frame walls makes these crazy hard. Also like it was said before, a good fabricator can plasma cut open a sub and make virtually impossible to detect what was added. I've also gotten creative with my motor mounting plates, but that usually just pushes the bend farther forward of the a arms, unless you got your bumper shocks mounted right.

Don's rules used to allow unlimited patching. and no length on bumper shocks. The last shocker i took there didnt bend either but i wasnt hitting as hard as brice hits. i wish he would go back to any length of shock again but i would rather build harder cars.

If these cars are making a "thud" noise when hitting, they are loaded !!! I've ran plenty of mod/outlaw cars in the past. When they hit it sounds the same period.Next derby take a hammer and tap on the rockers.
