Is it possible for a mid weld mid 70's Newport/Yorker to do full arena shots all day and not have it nose? And go nose to tail with a 61 ford wagon with both cars at full speed? And run multiple derbies with the same cars? If so, I want to know how to do it. There's 3 cars that have bumpers hardnosed and a couple 1/8 plates to repair damage in front of the a arms that I see run and the one has a hofffmeister cradle/dp and it doesn't bend at all but the other 2 don't and they do bend slightly. The inspectors say they've checked inside the subs. I wonder if the upper fender frames can be built up enough to make a shocker this hard? Or what else? I total a shocker in one run with these rules and don't hit near as often or crazy as these cars...I actually hope there is something legal they're doing so I can do it but just don't believe it.

Dp, engine cradle, tranny craddle, collapsable drive line, lots of welding, strategic engine mounts, lots more welding, and plate if allowed on a fresh or preran car.

Ive built alot of shockers over the years, and built some that were very tuff to bend. But like others have said, depending on the rules you can make one pretty stout. Full weld, engine cradles and DP's...many factors in making one hard. But full tracking over and over without bending anything is impossible unless there is something illegal in most cases. JMO

Let's see your rules, then we can enlighten you if it's possible.

Rules: weld a arms forward, remove pucks, no welding frame to firewall or x member, dp and cradle(hoffmeister) are on one of the 3 cars but just cradles on 2 of them. External seam welds, 6 points on hood with only 2 to the frame. Repairs with 1/8 plate on 2 sides of damage with 1 inch beyond the damage. They have their bumpers hardnosed with the shocks welded along the frame. All this makes for tough cars but there are a lot of shockers ran there and none of them hold up like these. They don't have imp subs and looking through the frame holes they don't appear stuffed. I really think it must be something in the upper fender frame. I'll see if there's any video yet.

you would have to plate the hole sub to full track ppl and not not bend anything. if they got the metal skills and time it could be done without anyone seeing it. and by the sound of it all there hard work is payin off.

Is their floor boards and firewalls reinforced? Does their DP push hard against the FW? Do they have a brace over the trans? Do your rules allow straps off the heads down to the frame horns? My shockers always bent in back of the spring pockets, around the steering box or at the FW..if the frame is loaded then it will tear the bolts out of the body mounts..the floor will just continue to wrinkle and pull out..unless the cage is welded to the frame somehow..

I knew someone once that had a rusty floorpan in mopar and used 3/8 plate to replace it and "reinforce his seat for his safety"( :-) ) and then used 6 inch squares of 3/8ths as washers "so his sub bolts wouldnt pull thru" ( :-) x2 ) and then had his downtubes attached to it. That sub moved very little. It ended up finally bending bad in front of and behind the a arms
