It seems like I see a lot of cars on here with stock leaves. Is it not that big of a deal if you aren't allowed to add some. How does it affect the strength of the rear. I'm still chaining and tucking.

That's all I've ran is stock springs... personally I didn't think it was that bad... first one I tucked and nothing else sat level front to back and rolled in real nice,.. second I did a tuck and a canoe and chained humps and set low in the back to the point of only a little arch in the springs, again rolled in good and stopped at the canoe,.. 3rd I just canoed it down chained humps and sat it low in the back to the point of flat leafs and ran without a rear bumper, took a weird shot and the rails bent inward badly so couldn't really tell on that... all 3 cars also had quarters pounded in and some crease work done.... but if ur looking for a roll it shouldn't matter to much in my expierence

What about adding one or two on top of main? Would that be a little better? Just looking to put it together quick. I have two I'm trying to get done quick!

From the cars I have ran, we have never had a problem with the leafs. We just put a few more clamps on, chain the humps and rock. As long as your drive these cars forward and are not constantly using them in rewind, I would not worry.

I had a 71 plymouth wagon with a flatstack and they was under the frame a lot of framework done and it wa the junkiest car I have ever spent hard timeon had a 68 newport with imp sub got 1st stock springs ...ran a 67 imp stock srings and rusty rear rail 2nd place ....the springs really don't matter cause either way you need to stay in drive ;D

IMO it all depends on your competition. Remember, just because you're driving forward the whole time doesn't mean someone isn't lining up to track you in the rear (which is the first spot I'd pick on if I saw any car with stock leafs out there with me). 2 big angled shots to the rear of a stock mopar and you'll be sky high. 2 more hits and bye bye driveshaft (unless of course you're running a slider but if you are then why skimp in the leaf pack department?)
Purely my opinion but if I have the option to build a 7-9 stack of leafs, I'll take the 3 hours it takes to do it and be much happier with the results.

I broke a main leaf you think I could weld it and it hold up no I would take another leaf or 2 and a couple clamps and build a scab over the broke leaf if you don't have the means to replace it. |

Everyone says drive forward, yeah thats a good idea, but what happens when you stop and a car drives through your trunk? You ever seen a car quit running for just a few seconds and somebody just pounces on him like a cat on a bird? Where you think they're gonna ya over? If at all possible, always build your leaf pack. I would rather have a better defense back there than what mopar gave me 40 years ago. |

all depends how much is left of the car....... had a 63 galaxie on its last leg that broke the back of the main about 2 inches from the eye........ just overlapped the 2 parts of the main with the back part going under the front part so it hit the 2nds spring down and used one of the clamps and squeezed em together..... it worked so i didnt have to pull the leaf pack out on a wasted car I broke a main leaf you think I could weld it and it hold up |

The rear of it is still straight. Broke the main leaf about 3 inches away from the shackle on the driver side the passenger side is badly beat in but the driver side ain't bad at all. I was thinking about maybe trying to rosebud weld it and then sedation it for one last run for fun before its scraped. Just wondering if I welded it with a spring steel welding rod if it would hold up good enough for one last run

iwould overlap them and drill a couple holes and bolt it back together with some big washers before I tried welding it......JMO
