The roll bar could have potential to benefit on the inside however putting it over the roof and bolting or welding it to the roof would have just as much effect.
As far as boxing the rear rails, you're still fighting the factory flaws of the car as far as frame design and body lines. Unless you can help it in front of the humps it'll still dump there before anything else, due to a few things.
You can hard nose that bumper back there but in 3 good shots it'll be up out of the way on its way to packing in.
Just my $.02 for what it's worth

I can run a 24" wide gas tank.protector, and run 9 wire.from cage to frame rails. so that should slow down.the.bellying eh?

Yep it sure should. I'd also look at what the rules say for down bars off the cage and use them wisely. I'd also personally run the 9 wire higher up like off the roll bar.

Do the welds hold where the siderails and the rear frame meet and where it meets the front frame or does the siderail just kink? Those side frames are just pathetic looking, I didn't expect them to be so different from other gms.

Those side frames are just pathetic looking, I didn't expect them to be so different from other gms. I too was confused by what you were saying but I'll let you know what happened on mine after the first run. After the derby I noticed that the bottom of the humps there are two holes in the frame and noticed that there was a crack starting to form between the two and I believe that is where/why they belly so hard down there as that's a weak point in them and the frame basically just collapses on itself there and then causes it to belly. Of course several things have to happen in the rearend for that stress to be forwarded to that point in the frame, but it's my observation from this summer.

Yes, I am wondering if the unboxed middle section of the frame is perhaps weaker than some of the other gms that have an open c channel shape but often is doubled. The square shape of this frame just seems weak looking to me. I can't have any cage or wire to the frame and will need to get creative or sell this 72 I have. Thanks for the info alexryan17 about the weak area.

you could always restub it from in front of the humps back with a '71-3 impala, catalina, etc.
