I’ve got a 81 Newport that is spotless. I have read thru this thread. My question pertains to the trunk. I’ve seen a few videos of R bodies with the trunk stock and they appear to be stout. Will they eventually whale-tail at the pillars like a Y framer or shocker? I’ve always tucked the trunk on my other mopars, wondering if I should do the same on this R body? It’s for a stock class, we can chain the humps, bolt the trunk shut in 8 spots. No all thread to frame but can run two spots of wire from trunk lid down around frame. Thanks

Gas tank protector? That changes everything on these cars behind the back doors.

Gas tank protector? That changes everything on these cars behind the back doors. Gas tank protectors must be NO wider then 24inches across the back- 6inch tall on back with 2 inch gap between all sheet metal around back side of gas tank protector. Tank Protector can only be attached to back seat bar with nothing attaching up or down to body/frame/ cage. You may gusset to back seat bar only. Must be 4 inches off floor and stay below where speaker deck attaches to floor! You are allowed a loop up off your gas tanks protector, but must be straight up and not angled. Nothing higher up then 4 inches above gas tank. Loop can’t attach to anything but the tank protector.

On the 79 Newport I ran here last year. We enveloped it tuck trunk to trunk pan and fold quarters over top. Had a new Yorker back bumper welded on direct to frame. Had just a 5 leaf pack under it with coil over shocks. Long story short was too hard on both ends started bellying in middle and ripping under trans cooler I did not have gas tank protector.

Gtp tight to package tray kickered up to halo. Rear window bar tied i to halo or gtp. Tuck trunk. Dimple and let it do.its thing... Always tell people if not a 64-66 imp or 67/68 mopar wagon. Build the trunk.for defense only and focus on the center of the car forward

Is there any difference in a st regis compaired to a newyorker/newport r body? Some st regis will have a strap and a extra plate over the hump but over all no they are all 3 identical no reason to pay more over the other. All 3 are great cars
