Seems not a day goes by when I read where members here do not understand how to post pictures in their posts. Back few months ago I made this tutorial to post here (and a couple other sites too) and i've posted it in a few different threads, but very few members that need to see it actually do, so i'm going to post this again and ask that admin please make this thread a sticky.
There are many ways to post pics here at WeCrash. The simplest/fastest way to do it is, say you see an image online somewhere that you want to post. Simply right click that image and if you're using Internet Explorer, choose "Save picture as". from the menu that pops up. If you're using Firefox, right click, choose "Save image as". Then save that pic to somewhere you'll remember it's at. Generally your desktop is the easiest.
Save as in Explorer
Save as in Firefox
From there, there are many different sites that will not only host that pic, but also allow hotlinking so that it will show elsewhere online. If you simply right click an image online somewhere and copy the properties, then use that info in our code, you'll be "stealing" that sites bandwidth and most are not to crazy about having that happen. This is why you should always use a free hosting site to post pics. It also almost guarantees that the image will show. Often times the place where you get the image from will delete the image/story and of course then it will not show anywhere.
I'll post about the four sites that I think to be the best/easiest for forum use, each having certain features for certain uses.
The first site is: tinypic.com/ (no registration required, but if you do, then you can access your pics anytime you want to). The best feature about this host is that not only does it auto code the image for you, it links the pic in full size for posting.
First go to tinypic. Then the First step there is to click on the tab that says "Browse", and browse your machine to find the image you want uploaded. Second step is after you find it, left click on it and most of the time it will load into the upload area/line. If it doesn't then you need to click the "Open" tab (step 3) to load it. Step 4 is to click the "upload" button and wait for it to get uploaded:
After it is upped, you'll see a thumbnail of your image, and a set of codes:
For posting on forums you'll want to use the second set. Just left click the "copy" button off to the right of the second code....that will highlight that code.
This will automatically copy that code onto your clipboard, so to post it, alls you have to do is go to your post/thread and either hit "CTRL - V", OR right click and choose "Paste", and then that code is loaded into your reply. The results should look like this:
Remember this: You can always hit the "preview" in your post so as to make sure what you've done is correct before posting it live.
The second site is: www.imageshack.us/index.php (it's not required to register, but if you do then your pics are kept in your logged in history so you can reference them later if needed)
The uploading process is very similar to that of tinypic. The only minor difference is here you click "host it", rather than "Upload"
After the pic is loaded/hosted here, you'll not only see a thumbnail of your pic, but a larger set of codes to choose from:
There is one up top you would use (in most forums) if you want to link the pic as a thumbnail (members can click on thumbnail and then a new page opens with the image full sized), and one down below you'd use for linking it as full sized.
The advantage to posting your pics as thumbnails is, first off the page here loads a lot faster, especially for those who are on dialup. Secondly, it saves the hosting site a lot of bandwidth, and thirdly, people who read your post can make their own decision if they want to see the image full size. Again, this is most helpful for those on dialup. And fourthly, it's also helpful if the pic happens to be a wide pic because then as a thumb it won't "break" or "stretch" the page here to where people have to scroll left-right to read the thread.
The third site is: imagevenue.com/
Again, the uploading steps are very similar except that here you have to first choose if your pic is work safe or not, and then you click "Send Files" to upload the pics.
The pics that are uploaded will only post as thumbnails wherever you post them (they link to full sized), but the advantage of using this site is you can upload multiple pics at once. Default setup of the page gives you 5 slots, and you can opt to upload 10 at a time. The sets of codes that you then get are similar to the rest. For most forum posting you'll use the second line of code. Just click "copy url" on the left of that link and it will highlight and automatically load to your clipboard just like tinypic does.
The fourth site is: smg.photobucket.com/
This is a site where you have to register. (it's free) You then get unlimited storage and a monthly amount of 25gb in bandwidth. (that equals to a s___tload of storage and bandwidth. More than you'll ever dream of using if you are just posting to forums, etc...) Also, the pics you upload are kept in your own account and you can create sub-folders if needed. They will never be deleted except by you (or of it's pron of course.....they'll also ban you if they find pron in your account)
Again the uploading is very similar to all the above sites. Just browse, upload, click on the "IMG code" line of code, then post away.
Enjoy!!
I don't know how to take a pic off the internet and place it into a post. Is there an easy way to explain how that works?
