why would you cut the weld and just weld over it well i seen where people are saying cut the tabs on the crushbox, is that the small gussets behind the boxes?

A tab is the piece of metal that overlaps the frame rail and is welded. Since this weling is done it might be easier for you at this point to cut a "pie" out and cold bend and weld back up.
jacob what year and model is that crush box. Looks stronger than the new ones less holes.

IMO Cold bending and cutting at the tab is the best way that I have found. I have done everything, cold bend, cut at tabs, cut at frame rail/boxes and the best result has been both. IMO now thats with cap prot and without. I used 7"-9" spacers at core support. And for the people who are just learning how to do either cold bending/cut dont expect these cars to be indestructable in the front. They will bend side to side, straight back, or up. and in some cases all of the above. You will see they bend in all sorts of diffrent spots, all depends how you drive and recieve hits. The use of hard and soft bumpers relates how you use the front. Tried both with good results. Also these cars can be very hard without a cap prot... proven..

have yet to build a ford, me and a buddy are talking about going 50/50 on one just to learn, can someone put up a pic of where to cut/weld at the box? or take a previous posted pic and circle where it was cut/welded? i might have missed it but i dont think there have been pics of a cut/weld other than the pie@ crossmember

How far are you tilting ur cars when u cold bend at crossmember and at the crushboxes? And how much for a square and for a bubble?.. I built a square last year and tilted at the crush boxes a cple inches welded it up then tilted at the crossmember the rest and I think it was a 6 inch spacer at the core support with 2 hockey pucks under the firewall body bolts

I have read all the posts on tilting. My question is do you want to do this to all fords new and old or just the newer ones? I am going to be using a rust free 78 lincoln.

the old fords ive thought about doing.....but your taking a chance on the nose droppin due to the angle down............but if I did do it I would weld bottom and top frame seams on the nose from a arms forward and and I would be more apt to do it on the Big frame cars.....Town cars/ Marquis /Ltd being the frame is a better design in front of the a arms and how they have an actual crushbox
