First off the rears of these things are really strong with a tuck and notch. The fronts one the other hand they first like to bend right in front of the a-arms. Then after you fix this problem they like to bend at the firewall when the frame turns to c-channel. I also believe if your running a 74 or 75 monte you would be better off with a softer bumper because the corners of these bumpers are very strong and will mess up frame rails fast if you make sure you hit square though you will be fine

Just one notch. Right in front of the shock. There is a natural bend to the frame.

If you can leaf, it is definantly worth it. Especially if you plan on using the back a lot.

We paid 60 bucks for the bumper so I'm happy to hear that I forgot to ask should I dimple the frame when I leaf it? I DON'T WANT TO PLOW DIRT!!!! Oh and steering we switched it out with a joint a lil past the firewall and my dad was wondering about the ball joints because we can't weld the a arms down this year and we can't them down to oh its gonna have 8.25 r15 12 ply tires on it to so are they weak? Tie rods weak? Thanks guys

I am not a huge fan of the cutlass bumpers, but they will work in a pinch, especially for only $60. Mounting it upside down is the way to go. Do anything you can to strengthen the bumper. Plate the mounting points, plate all the holes on the front and backside of the bumper, and beat down the crome and weld to the backside. 23 inches is a little high for the front bumper, I would shoot for around 21, the most important part is to make sure that it is level with the frame, center of the bumper with center of frame.
If you are using good heavy leafs don't notch imo. I have not leafed one, but have seen a couple run, they can be bad a$$.

Ok sweet I messed up bumper can be only 20 inches off ground and we can't plate the holes on bumper but we did beat all the chrome down and welded that sh!t up solid and we could only put car leafs on the back no longer then 46 or 47 inches so should I dimple the frame? They are not truck springs but I think their 5 leaf pack and we are gonna clamp them down we can only put I think 3 clamps on leafs

yea thats what my measurements were reflecting and looking at the cradle the pads are at the way back of the cradle. Cause i was gonna get my new shaft from nerat at 58" with 6" hanging out and from my measuments show with my long tail 400(9") i would have like 51" for drive shaft space so thats not gonna work so i had to call nerat and am thinking of gettin a 52" with 6 hangin out but I usually run metrics so im conserned it wont work on a newer ford or gm brian recommends not to have more than 10" hanging out so im not sure if i should get a 55" or 52" this car kinda fell in my lap and I primarily run newer junk so dont want to get a shaft just for this car and then next yr im back to normal. From the middle of pads to rearend snout i measured 101" and my engine and trans combo mesuring from middle of buckets is about 50" by itself

Well the good thing about newer cars is that they are close enough is length that we can use the same drive shaft. My dad and I build our own driveshafts and they will work in newer fords and gms. But dads wont work with an Auto, because he runs a truck 4 Speed, which has a really short tailshaft. So we have seperate drive shafts. One good thing about making our own is that we have 3 or 4 female ends and two male ends so we can actually make them longer or shorter ;D
