How do you keep the ball joints from breaking on a newer truck?

Have a 1985 3/4 ton 4x4. Has a 14 bolt full floater. Automatic with transfer case. Am I wasting my time leaving the transfer case in the truck? If I leave the transfer case in and want to run a slider drive shaft how do I convert the output shaft on the transfer case to bolt the slider to it?

Isn't there a cross member between tranny and TC? if there is and its only a chain drive TC (expendable TC), IMO leave it in. that will be one more cross member for when it starts to belly.

curious as to see what people think, went to a show up in Ontario earlier this year and seen a newer style chevy (probably 2002, 2003) wrecked in a stock build. chain doors weld rear end change bumpers and go, nothing close to a strong built truck. they chained from frame - rear axle's and when the truck rear end started to go up it broke the frame from the chains and kept the pig driveshaft everything straight, do you guys suggest this or let everything go naturally?

You would be better off finding a 4x4. 2wd will jut get the ball joints broke and the front bumper will get cleared. Use a good strong car bumper

would a 94 1500 ext cab 4x4 be worth trying?got it as a parts truck for my same year 2500....all i need is the 350 sbc in it and some tiny things..was gonna put a 4.3 in it an smash whats left....also,non derby related, but can i swap the doors, seat, dash panels from a 1500 to my 2500?both are 94s,the 1500 is ext. cab,and the 2500 is single cab long bed.

I'm going to be running my first truck in a couple of months, it's a 86 chevy 3/4 ton 2wd. Should I be concerned with the carrier bearing at all?

Car 26 ken perry I had the same truck. All I did was unbolt and put washers behind it to bring it down a bit. Been ran about 8 time and no problem. People do away with it. Everybody has a different look on it.
