Since nobody reads the truck forums I did some research on this truck. It's a 76 Chevrolet 1 1/4 ton Canadian military truck. From what I read online they do have a heavier frame can anyone verify this?

The 1 ton and bigger frame is different than the 3/4 ton. its not much of a difference if you didn't have them side by side you prolly couldn't tell the difference.

I'm running a old military truck right now and they have extra brackets on the humps. And the boxes are thicker.

Taking a break from cars building my first truck and I jumped the gun building before rules.were posted. So I have a question for you truck guys. I folded the rear 1/4s of the box down n that isn't allowed were I'm running so I'm unsure if I should set em.back up and put a tailgate In or just chain in.place.of the gate?? Next question is i have the ass end dropped sitting about 18 inches off the ground to bumper... should i raise it back up or leave it low seeing as it isnt going to be wedged anymore? Also what are you guys running for drive shafts? My slider isn't long enough from my cars and I don't know if the stock one will hold up to 425 horse being thrown at.it?? Also I'm wondering if its worth the hassle putting longer studs and and running 1ton rims that dish out on the.front and rear? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Jon Williams 13x

I'd put the tail gate back on and chain or weld it as much as you can, and raise the back to about 24, then you can still take out rims. I dont know what bumper you have on the rear but get creative with a step bumper. If it is a 3/4 ton rear end I dont think 425 hp on that drive shaft will be an issue. but i have never had that much HP. I know on one of my chevy's (80's 3/4 ton suburban) it came with a 454 from the factory and the u joints were the biggest size for that model, we had to order an off set u joint for some reason when i put a different drive shaft on it because the caps were different sizes. Longer studs for 1 ton rims? I have no idea, but if you wanna try it go for it. I wouldn't, but that's me. If you can't run 1 tons, someone might have a stink about it.

That's what I was thinking cuz.we.are allowed to weld the gate. And yea its a 14 bolt corporate with 456 gears I just was up in the air with the shaft I just don't want to be done because of drive shaft issues. I think every.derby driver.I know hates being.done over a.drive shaft lol. Thanks

Is it a 2 or 4 wheel drive. Plate the humps under the fire wall if your rules allow. If not pin them through the fire wall and run kickers down off your cage if you can.

I am workin on building my first truck this year. Its a '91 chevy 1500 4X4. I was going to mate a carburated motor to the stock trans an a budy said the stock trans wont work well. I need to know is that true. Seeintg as the truck is an extended cab I was going to run stock trans/transfer case so i didnt have to build mile long drive shaft.

Probably has a 700r4 trans and they are pretty soft. nothing near a turbo 400 or even a 350. My opinion. if you have a older more "reliable" tranny I would cut and extend the drive shaft.
