I have available to me a 1994 astro awd and a lumina apv, don't remember year. How do these hold up? Anybody run them? Imy reasoning behind thinking these two would be pretty good is that the astro is rear wheel drive and heavy suspension up front, plus 4.3 and leaf sprung rear.and the apv is based on the lumina chassis, which is a top contender in the derby world with work of course. If you've ran either of these, how did they hold up? Would you run one again?

Well since nobody replied, one of 3 things is true. Either nobody has run these, or nobody wants to talk about them cu they're killer strong and still secrets, or this post died.

The full frame Astros are strong and compete with the explorers around here as for sub frame model can't say but their probably tough also

Since there seem to be no pro tips ill shed light on what ive noticed having run a Safari and a 90s Caravan. The CVs on the chrysler vans are weaker than hell but the back ends seem to hold up pretty well. Ford vans: I have read that they all suck, but from personal experience watching them all in bone stock shows they have all held up well, from early 90s to early 2000s. The ford Aerostars are tough as nails, watched one win against fullsize pickups one time. Was very impressive. I know absolutely nothing about the GM vans, seen a few run, seemed to be average everything??? The GMC Safari, which is an astro is rock solid. Thing was like a tank against the other vans. In fact after 2 very abusive derbies mine was still straight. Again, bone stock. The back axle broke on mine and thats what put me out, and I have read that the back axles on these are very week anyways.
We should be running several minivans this year, will update at the end of 2015 lol

Astros are tough for sure if your allowed a rear swap I'd recommend it, and as for fords and gms not to sure mostly Astro and caravans around here but found out kias are pretty tough due to the beefy unibody rails in the back
