No not really...85 are a 2 piece rear seal 86up is one...as long as it is a 4.3 they are all pretty similar...vortecs make more power but the heads easier...as far as balance shaft goes it doesnt matter on the derby track you wnt notice a difference...just dont use a v-8 distributor

just dont use a v-8 distributor I have never used anything but v8 distributors in my 4.3s. They sell new stators at any parts store for cheap that fixes the problem. If you know how to disassemble and reassemble a distributor. Its really not that hard. Here is a picture of a few random stators just to explain what a stator is if nobody understands what I have been saying for years. Besides different module and capacitor options that vary depending on what you have or want. The only real difference is the stator. It either has 6 or 8 magnetic pickups.

Get one from a 86 C10 pickup with a 4.3 from the local parts store.

Didn't see it mentioned on here at all, but figured I'd throw the info out there. 84 4.3l from a chevy van. Had factory carb. Swapped it out with my edlebrock, cleaned it up, etc. Just a junkyard engine. Well, it has an ESC distributor. Don't know if anybody on here has had any experience with them. But, I can tell you this. After wiring it like a standard hei, I had no spark, so I had to do a little digging. Well, there is a 4-wire harness running off the rear of the dizzy. I found out, all you have to do is jump the green wire into the black wire and I believe this grounds the pickup. Threw it together, cranked her over, and she purrs. Just wanting to share my experience in case anyone else is having issues.

Did some looking and it is more than likely an 85. I know it came from a g10 van though, I helped pull the damn thing ha

I dropped an edlebrock 1405 (autozone) with an adapter directly. The adapter was only because of the 4brl intake on the 4.3 had the wide primaries and small secondaries. The adapter makes a better sealing surface. I've had problems with them before on small blocks. You can drop it straight on, but it barely seals, and that's if you get it to seal. The adapter is well worth it. No more hassle. I bet I have 6-10 of them just laying around. Mostly because I'm too lazy to clean the gaskets off(really baked on). I will grab a pic tomorrow and post it

So I just picked up a 1988 4.3 out of a blazer. It's torn down already and I was wondering what cam people are using and how much you bored it out.

I wouldn't bore it, just a hone job if the cylinders are decent. throw in a set of 350 chevy flat tops, you can also go with the sbc 1.5 or 1.6 roller rockers. cams, its out there on options, you can stay roller $$ or put a regular flat tappet cam in. mine I'm going with the flat tops for a compression bump, prob keeping the stock cam and going with 1.6 roller rockers.

Thanks for the feedback! Right now I am looking at a comp cam with Duration 260/260, Lift .500/.500. Anything else you recommend doing while its torn down?

Keep your radiator or buy a 2.3 to last longer while hot
