I've got a motorcraft on mine and it runs good and winds up nice but smokes quite a bit at an idle...could use a rebuild but can't beat them and they are a dime a dozen in junk yards.

ok so i just thought this threw. if this sounds right or wrong will someone tell me? lol i was thinking the reason i keep burning up clutches is because i have to keep my motor reved up high to take off cause it is in a heavily built pinto wagon. so what i am planning on doing is building a fresh motor for next year anyways, but this one building it .030 over with new flat top pistons and rings and going to put a head off of a newer 2.3 on it because it has the roller rockers and stuff. going to get the head port and polished. and going from the stock gear in the rear of my wagon to a 4:62. can anyone tell me where i might be able to get a 4:56 for an 8"? do i need to put a bigger cam in on a build like this and what would be a good carb. not afraid to spend a little money just got to know what to spend it on. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

I found my 462's on craigslist. I believe you can get them on Jegs, and speedway motors goes up to 456 if I remember right.

I'm still trying to get mine dialed in, so i'm not sure. Mine is stock with some head work done. i had .025 shaved off of the head, and some port and polish done. I'm having timing issues. I'm going to put in a new distributor, and a higher output coil and see if it helps

At a machine shop. When they do this, they are milling X amount of of the mating surface that sits on the block, whereby increasing compression ratio.
This compresses the fuel air mixture tighter....makes a bigger bang = more power.
