thanks again for the suggestions, i wont be able to work on the car again until the weekend, just seems really odd to all of a sudden have converter issues as the trans was fine last year when removed from a car just sat inside a heated shop for the winter

hmm, guess I never had that situation before. I have had converters with internal friction/ binding problems that showed up as a low speed shudder with a stick-slip type interaction. I can also imagine a similar but more severe issue where the rotor and turbine are mechanically locked due to some kind of problem and then it would behave like a straight drive with the clutch engaged, which is kinda like what it sounds as though this guy is seeing, or maybe something in between those two scenarios. If I ever encounter that again I'll try your test method to see what effect it has. I can see how removing the load would affect the shudder but if the input and output are just plain locked together then I would expect that the load wouldn't matter.... with the brakes holding the wheels from turning and the input and output mechanically linked together (instead of the designed fluid link), engine stall would be inevitable. right?

I assume the idle is high enough? Or what happens if you turn it up a little? Just checking the simple stuff....

Need some input on a carb. Looking for one to put on a 84' 318 bored 30 over rv cam and has a 4brll intake. I always have used stock eng. and stock 2brll carbs. Should I get a 4brll or 2brll with a adapter plate. What kind would be best. Med. sized tracks not to muddy. I run from 4:26 to 4:56 gears.

Edelbrock 600 4 bbl or Holley 4412 2 bbl is what I like. They make adapters for any of that.

Where is the best place to get one used that's in good shape and I will need a adapter for it that will fit a edelbrock intake. I don't realy want to pay for one new there more than I payed for the eng. thanks

I'd tell you to check eBay for a used carb, but it's always a gamble. Best place for a used one is to find a local swap meet or dirt track racer to get one from, at least they have to look you in the eye and tell you it's good before they hose you on it.

On the Holley 4412 what do the stages mean. There's stage 1, 2, 3, will they all work on SBM.
