I have seen guys bring cars with what I would have considered cages to our derby before. They came from another fair and they had hardened cars and beat the snot out of our local drivers. shortly after that they revised the rules, probably to prevent that from happening again.
We are allowed engine cradles I just don't know how to go about building one yet. My biggest hold up on for safety bracing right now is getting a hold of the 8" channel iron for side irons.
As far as compacts are concerned, all the rules say is "IMPORT/COMPACT CARS WILL FOLLOW THESE RULES FOR SET-UP", but yeah there's not really any definition what a compact is. I figure they class any fwd or small rwd as a compact. I've seen some pretty big fwd Volvos in the compact derby. We do get compacts at our fair, not all the time, but within the last few years we've had more of them show up. Even if we had only one show up, our fair does oval races and figure eights which they can race against the big cars.

This is the car I'm building. Other than some rusty floor boards all the sheet metal is good.

What should I do with an electric choke? I heard that they can cause problems in a derby.

If the carb is tuned right, you might have to give it a pump or 2 to fire it up, and like he said, it'll take a minute to smooth out because it will be running lean. For a winter time start, you'll have to pump the hell out of it.

Ok thanks, I've got an Empi 3/8 /38 carb for the 2.8 and it has an electric choke. I heard they're good carbs.

This is the best picture I have right now. I could get a better picture if you want Do you have any more pics of this car? How did you mount the engine? I'm trying to put a 2.8 v6 in mine but the cross member looks like it will get in the way.

Are there any other tire rims that fit pintos that aren't 13s? Is there any 14s with the same bolt pattern? All my tires are junk currently.
