If possible use the wagon its got just a ball hair heavier rear leaf spring. If using the hatch back. Flip the rear bumper and starp it down.
If possible reienforce the a arms. a good bumper is the way to go.
Also try to stay away from pre 76 pintos . They are just weak

Got an 80 wagon, any good ideas? Chained the motor mounts, got a 74 nova bumper on it, have a good cage, got an 80's vic rear bumper on it, A-Arms have been welded up with rebar in the recessed for filler, so far im stuck with the 6 3/4" rear end and C-3 trans with no reverse until I can find something different on here. Is there anything I need? I was contemplating building a slip shaft but wasn't sure if I needed it. Also I think the old site mentioned something about chaining the rear end up to the frame? Any help is appreciated.

I think you are off a couple of years. 71-73 pintos are different, and yes weaker, but 74-76's are my personal favorite

How do you weld a 6 3/4 rearend? from what i have heard "6.75s SUCK!!!!!" almost everyone i have talked to said that there a pain to work on and really not worth the time and effort. everyone tells me to run either a 8 in, 8.8, or a cut down 9 inch.

I have done it. It is more work than a rear end swap...even if you have to move or fab mounts.
1. Remove and completely disassemble differential. 2. Weld to perfection. Every little over weld involves grinder time. 3. Reassemble and re-install. 4. Repeat 1-3 over and over til you get it right. Took me a lil over 1/2 a day.
I got lucky with mine. I used it, including it's axles, for 6 derbies before I threw it away. I've heard others were not so fortunate.

you have got to chain the rearend.....if not the springs will come up through the floor just in front of the vertical sheet metal under where the back seat was........pretty much just"teepee".......learned that the hard way ... if you do nothing else....take off the rear bumper and chain down the rearend.....way down.....like 3 of your fattest buddies standing on the back and then chaining it !!!!!!

also..... take a look inside not too far in front of the rear wheels.....there is a big gap..............fill it ! ton of other stuff but sometimes it's good to learn on your own......try something different if you don't like what you hear......thats how you find the edges of the gray areas!

Is there any other way to get the back end of a 76 pinto wagon to stay down? Also, first time doing it, but chaining the rearend down, can someone show a pic or thoroughly explain it? I am going a little unconventional by taking the hatch off already, what do you think about that? anymore tips, first pinto wagon ever and havent been in the sport long?

pintodave?? when your leaf springs go through the floor were you hitting with the back? I've never had a leaf move...but I've never made a hit with the back.. .ever. pintos are the best little front end smashers ever...3 derbys then trowel it away and run a different one.

real tip now...an 8in will bolt right under your pinto. gears aren't the cheapest but they are tough I've taken a beating a buncha times and my rearend hasn't broke. That's my tip. everything else can be learned by working on your car not sitting at a computer. p.s. mavericks have 8in em.

hahaha sometimes you have to hit with the back when your front bumper is up almost over the motor.... ;D ...the springs came throught the floor on the first wagon i ever tried.....more like tore up half the rear floorboards than actually sticking out through the floor. just ran my trunk style last saturday for the 3rd time..... ;D gonna pull the frame back down ,plate it and run it again ! the rear on this one isn't moving ! ;D ;D

oh and btw...some pintos came stock with the 8" rear....usually the 6 cylinder cars but every once in a while you will find a 4 banger with on.....my fresh '80 wagon has a 4 cylinder with a c-4 but has the 6 3/4" rear .....haven't seen that combo before....it's usually the c-3. some of the 8's can be found in the '60's mustangs as well.....they are coil rears though.
