how hard would it be to put my buick 3.8 in a mustang? this will probably be only if i can not get the 2.3 going..anybody ever try this? I tried and failed. The center sump oil pan on the 3.8 makes it kind of a bear. I've never seen one with a rear sump pan . You would have to cut out quite a bit of firewall and tunnel to make it happen, because you'd have to set it way back in your lap due to the funky pan. Our rules won't let us move them back that far. I am one of the relatively few Buick 3.8 fans on here. I love them, but I'd sink quite a bit of effort into the 2.3 before going this route in a Foxbody. AMC Gremlin and Eagle are the only successful Buick 3.8 transplants we've had into non GM cars.....all because of the pan. One day, I will fab up a rear sump pan for my 3.8's.

very nice hellbent you took direction VERY well weld the core support back on a solid weld all the way around it and now take the bumper shock mounting hole and stick your tape measure in there to see how deep they are not go get pipe and shove in there then weld it on to the core support and then put your brackets on then your bumper. now if you follow all that you will have one amazing hard nose mustang.

Has anyone ever ram one of these in a no weld show? How'd it do Most of our shows around here are no weld, except bumper to bracket & bracket to frame. Our wheelbase limit is 105, so no w bodies. These have treated me better than any other model on the no weld tracks.....this is the last time I ran one no weld..... www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ulm4W80-jXsThis was run #3, heat #5, and win #3 for this car. With some work, it's got another heat left in it.

Anything stiff, yet lightweight. Stock, these can't handle a heavy bumper. The one on that car came right off the back of that car. The front ones aren't too bad either for a stock build. They only had steel bumpers through '86 This was a pretty clean car to start with. Here's the back after run 3

A Vic bumper stock is good on these cars for the front

clint your a genius thats how to get away with child abuse I was a little slow on the take there, sitting here, thinking wtf? But yeah, it's a nice legal way to beat on the boy ;D Got away with spousal abuse that way for a few years too. Hope to have a chance to beat up both kids Labor Day weekend Some family pairs around here will come down to the 2/3 of them, then signal each other and quit. We don't play that way. If it comes down to us, we finish the game. The winner earned it. At our last derby, the boy got a chance to beat on the old man.

Just got done pulling the engine a trans out of a 81 stang. Car is way too rusty to derby, so the rest is going to the crusher. My question is, is the rear axle worth saving or should I just leave it for crush weight? Also, same question with the front bumper. The car had a 2.3 and a 5 speed.

The bumpers are decent for a soft build on a lightweight car, such as these. They won't handle a heavy build or a heavy car, such as Lumina, Pacer, Camaro, etc.
If the rear is a 6.75, leave it...bia but not strong and a real pita to weld. If it's a 7.5, you decide...c-clips (I keep them because I have gears for them...I've bent a few axle shafts, but no other probs), if it's an 8.8, keep it...strong, but still c-clips

Thanks C4. You gave me the info I was lookin for. I'll probably pull the bumpers. I do some soft built chain cars that they could go on. I'll look into the axle a find out which one it is and go from there.

If it has a 8 bolt cover, it's a 6.75. 7.5 & 8.8 look the same...the 8.8 is just bigger & heavier. They are both a 10 bolt cover. If the id tag is still on the cover, look at the bottom row of #'s. The first 3 are the ratio, the next 2 tell ring gear size...both without codes to break
