I am running my first Contour next season and I was looking for some tips for these cars. I couldn't find anything listed on the main page. Just wondering if they are any good, weakness, strengths, what to do to make them stronger? You know, all the normal stuff! Any help would be great.
the rears are fairly strong i think, they might need some work to go up though. i think they are a little unpredictable otherwise. from what ive seen they can be every bit as strong as a lumina with a bumper swap.
I will be ran in a stock derby. Bumper swap is allowed. What about tie rods? Are they week like Tempo's and Escorts? What needs done to the rears to make them better? Or just let let it go where it will and use the front?
ran one this year and won midsize with a tucked trunk and an aluminium crown vic bumper trunk folded beautiful, i hit hard and square with the front and it loved it car drove on the trailer and ran again a few weeks later with my buddy in it before he went back over to war car will probably live again
yeah tie rods are weak. and as far as the trunk, you might be ok leaving it as is but i would recommend dimpling or something. the one i helped build i cut a slice in the wheel well. that helped but still started to bend down slightly.
ive never built a tempo but i would a$s.u.me the build would be similiar. and yes the front are tough, but i wouldnt just go out nosing. the backs are tough too so i would use it till its used up first then turn it around.
Solid cars...running one without rear bumper will make it bend whichever way it wants I always run a soft bumper or just a skin to for more of a know how it is going to roll and keeps "rails" together..also helps to tuck it or belly out lid and dimple...front are hard if those two bumpers are your options I'd use the caprice bumper hardnosed..to hard of a bumper just causes other stuff to bend/break quicker...as stated tie rods are junk just like tempos so do what you can to reinforce... I usually use black gas pipe ocer the tie rods. I ran my monte bumber on a tempo last year and it looked liike the bumper bent but it was the frame that bent upward. Took bumper off and it was perfectly straight. Not sure which one I will use. They are both on cars I am using to start the season
