If you can, reinforce the front frame rails from the bumper back to about 6in behind the rad cradle. I had a 96 hatchback in figure 8 and the front rails bent like pretzels.

yeah, I would have but I didn't have any left and didn't wanna spend the cash. but run it through the frame in line with the core support next time then? Putting that big a hole in the frame won't make it weak and buckle?

Nope plate it with a six by six on top and bottom and if ya wanna make more stronger run pipe over your allthread and weld it to the core support also

I got an 89 escort 1.9 when fan not running alternator puts out 14.2 when I turn the fan on it drops to 13.1. What would cause that? But if I rev it and keep it at about 2 grand it goes to 13.8. I don't think anything is wrong but wanna be sure. Thanks

could be a bad spot in the wire bad enough to draw current to the frame, but not enough to blow the fuse(if you have a fuse still) or melt the wire, causing a voltage drop.
best way to check this is with the fan off and batt disconnected, with a multi meter measure continuity(resistance) between the frame and the positive connection at the fan, it should read OL or open. If it shows anything else, it needs a new wire.
Also, the fan could be on its way out, run the fan for a while, shut it off, then feel if its super hot.
