Has anyone found any other spindles/front steering knuckles that are steel to fit the bubble taurus. I'm breaking the lower ball joints out of the knuckle. Thanks in advance.

If your having issues with security here’s something that may help. You can swap in a PCM from a non PATS car and do away with security all together. The PCM I have is from a 96 with the vulcan and I swapped it into a 01 with a Vulcan and PATS. You will have to hot wire the fuel pump and the starter to switches but it’ll run just fine. Then after that if you want to get really simple you can make a simplified harness where the engine harness connects above the trans I’ll have to look and see what pins it is but basically there is 2 wires that get grounded and 2 wires that get power and you can get rid of all the other wiring besides the engine harness including all interior and dash wiring and the under hood fuse and relay panel and the wiring that runs through the drivers side fender. I will get some pictures etc this weekend when I get back out to the garage. One of these days I need to get to the junk yard and find a couple more non PATS PCMs. According to my research you should be able to find them in 96 and 97 cars of the cheaper trim level but I will confirm that after a trip to the junkyard. Im sure there’s a way to make a simplified harness in the same way for the older generations but I don’t have any of those to play around with right now.

It should be the 96 and 97 Taurus G and GL models that do not have PATS and some of the sables has it and some didn’t. Should be pretty easy to tell just look on the column and see if it has the reader for the key by the switch.

For the simplified harness you need to ground pins 20 and 36. And power pins 1 and 9. This will power the PCM. Additionally you can power pins 14 and 39 to power the alternator field. This will only work on non security cars or cars that have had a non security PCM swapped in and you will have to wire your fuel pump and starter to switches. This is on the plug above the transmission where the engine harness plugs in.

Ok gang 1997 Taurus no key, any tips on unlocking the steering and getting it to start? I don’t think it has the PATS system.

From what I learned here just loop them and shift easy.
