how hard is it to change it to druraspark? How much do they cost ? Where are they located on a stock mustang? Simply as buying a duraspark box and a distrib. Or just a points style distrib. Autozone part number for a points distrib: 30-2400 (that is a single vacumm advance, it runs $45.99 plus $5 core) The duraspark box should be on the fender, driver side.

Dura spark pretty reliable, so if you are on the cheap, I wouldn't be afraid to pick up a used dist & module set.
If going points, change out coil too, or high energy coil will burn out points.

Depends on which distrib you get. If you get a duraspark distrib, then you need a duraspark box. If you get a points style, you just need the distrib and a coil.
Duraspark: wire it exactly as shown on page ! of this thread.
Points: only one wire coming out the the distrib. it goes the the negative side of the coil. Simple as that.
As for timing it. Roll the engine over to Top Dead Center. Pull the cap off of the distrib. Mark where the rotor is pointing. Pull the distrib out and replace it with the new distrib getting the rotor pointing as close to your mark as possible. Set your final timing with the engine running like you would anything else.

Sorry for the bad luck with the units C4, I ran them in my circle track cars for years and a couple demo cars as well as my tractor puller They've always been reliable for me, but the bad news is that they are a mechanical advance and unless you set your initial timing at about 4*, they get all crazy when hot and are really tough to turn over. A newer style "mini" starter helps, but still turns hard. I'd recommend it for a stock derby engine with some blowby, but not for something built..

Got it wired up according to the pic and no spark. It ran fine before i started this attempt. I dont know if how i made my plate would have anything to do with it but i welded the back side of tbe bolts so i didnt have to messmess around with 2 wrenches but i had dura spark box mounted so the bolts would be in exact location. Would that have fried the box? Help please

From box...red to coil positive, green to coil negative, distributor harness plugged into distributor
+
12v to coil positive
=
spark
Try a different coil.

what about the sixth wire on the box? because you have the orange black and purple going to distributor, red-coil with 12 volt, green to negative. the theres one more wire coming outta the box.. sorry to be asking all these questions
