Don't remember details. Also don't remember (dam old age) who, but someone on here posted explicit details a few months ago about the mods he had to make to get the rwd header to fit his Tempo. I do remember tht it involved cutting the pipes off of the flange.

Run the stock exhaust manifold and consentrate your energy on repairing your motor mounts, steering, cage, mounting your bumper, etc. Then just go have fun. Loud pipes dont win derbys.

Thanks for answering my question. One other question on these. How much wiring can you remove and still have a running car? We always ran/run carbed cars so this will be our first f/i build. Are these cars really picky about what you remove? It's a 92 so I'm guessing it's OBD1. I know some OBDII cars won't even start/run with the instrument cluster removed. We are going to hard wire the pump and move the computer and starter relay but other than that can we make it any more basic? Thanks for the help, Keith Why remove any wires? I move any wiring in the fenders, hot wire fuel pump and starter, relocate computers that are under hood in crush areas and run em'. Don't make it more complicated than it has to be. 10-4. All we'll do is the relocations and run it. Thanks

you have to make the pipes come out farther on the 2.3 header. they need to come out farther to clear all the intake stuff on top and crap like that

^^^^Ever been put out because officials thought flames from your exhaust was an engine fire? I have. Ive ran at least 50 compacts over the years. All were ran with stock exhaust cut off under the car and have never had the misfortune of being called out for a fire....ever. Maybe Ive just been lucky. But then again I only run FWD cars with stock motors. I buy them for close to scrap price, give em hell, and scrap them. I dont ever "build" compacts. The main reason that I dont spend the time or money on aftermarket exhaust/headers is because I run so many different type/brands of cars. If I only ran Tempos for example then I would invest in a Tempo header. Plus we only run stock/chain type compact derbys around here, no major mods/stuffed frames etc. Because of this we only get one or two runs out of a car so there's no reason to get carried away with the build. Last reason is they are mainly only ran for fun because payout is a joke around here. If I lived in a region of the country where compacts were more popular and pay outs bigger or I ran a certian type of car continually I would build them allot different. I think the most important thing for a newbe to consentrate on is safety. Headers and other cool guy stuff comes later....JMO

^^^^We are at around the same level. Couple hundred have left my garage. 60 or so for myself, and we are not overly particular about make/model. Some have been "built", most have been somewhat stock. It only happened to me once. Ended in 3rd out of around 25. With the way the other 2 were moving, it would have been an easy win. The ole AMC was pretty hot, but running like a champ. They stopped it for "fire". Video showed plain as day, it was shooting fire about 3 feet down & out of the pipe. Sad day for me. I also save engines/transmissions to go from car to car. If I were just scrapping them with the body, I probably would not bother with headers either.....or alot of wire simplification for that matter. Whether or not a "fresh" engine gets headers built also depends often on the time factor.....if there is time, we make some...if not, we don't I would agree with Jimmy that they are a secondary thing for sure.

Dam Clinton, that must have sucked. Headers/stacks are awesome for removing heat from the engine compartment, engine performance, and allowing exhaust fires to be irrelevent. I have nothing against them. I was only saying that there are more important things to worry about (like safety) than headers, especially if the primary objective is just for noise. Id rather run a car with "fixed" motor mounts, tie rods, cage, wiring, etc with stock exhaust over a stock built car with "loud" pipes. Its just a matter of priorities. JMO
