In order of importance, Weld motor mounts solid, Weld angle iron onto your tie rods so that they do not bend or break, Weld the diff on the automatic transmissions, Weld the adjustment bolt to the slot for the rear struts so that the hub doesn't lay over, run donuts on rear, tuck/notch trunk, crease the hell out of these cars it really helps, run a bumper of equivalent or greater strength than a steel box ford bumper. Other than the usual welding and universal build tips for compacts you should be good to go if your rules allow all this. weld the diff on the tranny? ummmmm? ?

Looks a lot like what a rear axle looks like when you pull the cover.

I have a bumper question here. We were given a 92 Topaz (freebies are always good) and were wondering what bumper to run up front on this car. We have two laying around that might be good candidates. The first is a 1974 Dart front bumper and the other is a late 70's early 80's mid-size GM rear bumper (I think off of a 79 or 80 Buick Century). The Dart bumper is slightly pointed steel with steel reinforcement and the rear GM bumper is flat steel with high impact aluminum reinforcement. This will run in a no/minimal weld 4cyl compact class. Will the front end go up with the Dart bumper and will the GM bumper be strong enough? Thanks for the help. Keith

Aluminum backed bumpers go in the scrap pile.

Thanks for answering my question. One other question on these. How much wiring can you remove and still have a running car? We always ran/run carbed cars so this will be our first f/i build. Are these cars really picky about what you remove? It's a 92 so I'm guessing it's OBD1. I know some OBDII cars won't even start/run with the instrument cluster removed. We are going to hard wire the pump and move the computer and starter relay but other than that can we make it any more basic?
Thanks for the help,
Keith

I'm not sure if they would fit or not. It almost looks like there would be enough room to cut each primary tube, weld 90's upward and run a zoomie. I'll have to look into that once we start the tear down.

Rwd 2.3 header requires mods to fit.

I move any wiring in the fenders, hot wire fuel pump and starter, relocate computers that are under hood in crush areas and run em'. Don't make it more complicated than it has to be.
